Some of us are inspired by the words of great writers, and others, the art of accomplished painters. But in the 21st century, many of us find inspiration, instead, in the online content of the independent creator. Here are 10 amazing online travel accounts that will give you that kick in the butt you need to get out there — whether it’s pictures, food, tales of adventure, or breathtaking shots.

1. Peter Bragiel

Peter Bragiel is an experienced host of an online travel series and makes content with a tongue-in-cheek style of humour that makes for excellent binge watching content. He seeks out notable characters and locals to include in his experiences too, giving you a more human sense to his destinations. Among many other places, he has crossed Mexico and Central America by public transportation and the Mississippi River by canoe. These adventures are available in comprehensive playlists.

2. Make Your Bones

DOT. Sydney to London on a Wing and a Prayer from Make Your Bones on Vimeo.

Make Your Bones merges emotional, human storytelling with beautiful shots of travelling the world by bike. They are honest with their stories, and show not only the glamour of roughing it out there on your own, but the good, bad, and ugly. Prepare to sink your teeth into the meaty documentary pieces this channel offers!

3. Travel Vlog IV

Ivana is a solo female traveller from the Netherlands who loves doing cultural research about the countries she visits and returns to — one series that stands out is her reactions to Bollywood movies as she prepares to return to India. If the sometimes overly cheerful, edited tone of travel Vloggers has gotten a little irritating, Ivana is a breath of fresh air with her honest reactions, personal opinions, and down to earth personality.

4. The Food Ranger

Hungry in the middle of the night? Why not watch some of The Food Ranger’s videos and get even hungrier for street snacks and dishes that are probably continents away? Trevor James, The Food Ranger’s personable host, is always game for anything, whether it be butter covered pides in Istanbul or dry chili pepper hotpot in Sichuan, and the upbeat editing and videos make for easy-going, fun to watch pieces.

5. Stanislas Giroux

Mare Nostrum — The Arab World from Stanislas Giroux on Vimeo.

Stanislas Giroux’s videos will knock the wind out of you. Every location he goes to is weaved into poetic, moving narratives through dramatic, snappy editing and sound. He even has customized title cards for each location he goes to, adding to the cinematic, trailer-like feel of his video. Watching just one of these videos will make you yearn for the adventures waiting for you out there.

6. Hey Nadine

Nadine seeks out some of the most fun places on the planet to be and explore — she goes fairy hunting, zip lining, and mud wrestling all while bringing the viewer along with her. When she’s not chasing adventure, however, she gives pretty practical travel tips, especially in regards to people with many food allergies. Her ‘What I Eat In A Day’ videos are insightful for those who want to stay vegan whilst travelling the world.

7. Vagabrothers

The Vagabrothers are one of the most recognized travel channels on Youtube. Their snappy, fun adventures try to show you a different, more local side to often stereotyped countries around the world, making viewers want to experience it for themselves. When they’re not hitting the road though, they have really useful travel tips, like how to travel during the holiday season, the winter, what to pack, and how to pack as little as you can.

8. On the Roofs

Adrenaline junkies will love the haphazard, devil-may-care adventures of the On the Roofs team, and while you may not (and probably should not) attempt any of what they do, seeing people scale skyscrapers and urban landscapes is always exciting. Through the videos you also get a glimpse of the city, its people, and modern architecture.

9. Joey Schusler

The Trail To Kazbegi from Joey Schusler on Vimeo.

This channel looks for interesting human stories they can tell against the backdrop of mountain biking and rugged terrain. Another channel with longer, engaging web-documentaries, you can be sure to find the inspiration you need to go out and start getting fit for your next adventure into the wild.

10. Kara & Nate

This travel vlogging couple are attempting quite a mean feat — to travel to 100 countries in the world by 2019. You’ll almost never go a day without hearing from them — they post nearly every day about their adventures in any city that they go to, so you feel as if you’re joining in on their adventures.

With all these tips from channels on where to get the best food, what’s great to pack, and a deeper insight into cultures, you should be all revved up for your next adventures. Start small and look at places around you. From there, perhaps you’ll find more unique stories to tell. And maybe you’ll start your own channel one day, who knows?
