Denmark’s charming capital city is often thought to be quite a pricey destination. Whilst it is certainly true that prices for accommodation, food, drinks, transportation, and attractions are often priced more than in other major European cities, this does not mean that it is impossible to find some excellent bargains!

Wakeup Copenhagen is a fantastic choice for travellers who want clean and comfortable rooms, great service, good amenities and facilities, and a central location, without breaking the bank and blowing most of their trip budget on a place to sleep. There are currently two Wakeup Copenhagen hotels in the city – one on Borgergade and another on Carsten Niebuhrs Gade. There are also plans for further hotels, set to open in 2016.

This article focuses on the budget Wakeup Copenhagen at Carsten Niebuhrs Gade.

Room types, facilities, and amenities

Ideal for families, couples, friends, and solo travellers, Wakeup Copenhagen offers several different room types to fully meet the needs of guests. You can choose between regular double rooms, larger rooms that include a fold out mattress in addition to a double bed, or a family option that comprises two rooms with a connecting door. If a good view is important to you, you can also opt for a higher room in the towering building. Heaven offers the best views, whilst Sky rooms have better views than the standard options.

All 510 rooms are impeccably clean and tidy, with invitingly soft beds complete with plush pillows and crisp white bedding. Relax on the bed at the end of a busy and fun-filled day whilst watching a variety of channels on the flat screen TV. Sleek, stylish, and minimalistic are perhaps the best ways to describe the rooms. Space is used effectively, with small reading lights in a panel over the bed, an oval glass desk affixed to the wall, and two bucket seats that can easily be tucked away when not in use. Privacy in the en suite capsule bathrooms is guaranteed by the tough frosted glass.

Whilst the standard rooms are fairly small, there is still enough space for two people and their luggage to fit comfortably without being cramped. And, after all, how much time do you really plan to spend in your room other than whilst sleeping when you could be out exploring wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen?!

Close to the harbour, the hotel is within walking distance of several top city sights, including the magical Tivoli theme park and the picturesque Kongens Nytorv with its elegant historical architecture. Shopaholics will be pleased to know that one of the longest pedestrianised shopping streets in all of Europe is also just a short walk away. You can shop till you drop in the designer stores and boutiques, safe in the knowledge that you don’t have far to walk to drop your purchases back in your room!

Copenhagen’s Central Station is just 700 metres away from the hotel and hop on hop off buses stop right outside. Whilst the road that the hotel is on is fairly quiet, with no major points of interest to mention, you will find an array of restaurants, cafes, and bars within a five to ten minute leisurely walk from the property.

Room prices

Each room has two booking options - the fixed and lower economy rate, and the slightly more expensive flex rate, which allows booking changes and cancellations right up until midday on the date of arrival. It is the prices that really make Wakeup Copenhagen a recommended choice for visitors to Denmark’s capital. A standard room for two, at the economy rate, is just 1,000 DKK per night (approximately 150 USD) and a large room (sleeps three people) is 1,400 DKK per night (approximately 210 USD). Compared to many other sleeping options in the city, these prices really are a steal! They’re low enough to make even the iconic Little Mermaid grin!
