The hotel ‘Il Nido dell’Etna’ [Etna Nest] is the perfect place for those who want to discover the flavours and colours of an island that keeps the mystery of an unexplored land, Sicily.

A comfortable stay surrounded by art and nature

Il Nido dell’Etna, lounge bar

Since 2006, Il Nido dell’Etna has welcomed travellers from all over the world. 18 spacious en suite rooms have been open to the public for almost 10 years. More than 70 paintings, frescoes and etchings by Sicilian artist Nino Cordio were brought to Linguaglossa - a small town at the foot of Etna - and permanently exhibited in the hotel’s common areas and guest rooms.

Luigi Cordio - owner of the ‘Nest’ and nephew of the famous artist Nino Cordio who was born in Santa Ninfa in the Sicilian province of Trapani - has managed to create a space that combines modern furnishings with traditional images of Sicily found by Nino Cordio in the shapes, colours and rhythms of the island.

‘There is something mysterious, mysteriously invented in his etchings. It is a new style, his style’, says Sicilian writer Leonardo Sciascia speaking about Nino Cordio; a 'sicilitudine’, a mix of Sicilian temperament and restlessness, a word that Sciascia himself invented to indicate a constant emotional tension that characterises the personality of Sicilians, and the entire work of Nino Cordio.

Each room is a nest

The Nest, Nino Cordio, 1987 (aquatint)

There is a small lounge bar in the hotel that encloses both the public and intimate side of the place as in the paintings by Nino Cordio, where the overwhelming representation of nature retains a personal character bound to the profound feeling of an attentive observer.

Nino Cordio’s masterpieces transform the hotel into a museum of Sicilian landscapes and traditions. The idea of the nest has been a source of inspiration both for the artist and for the hotel’s owners who wish to make a simple stay in Sicily not only a moment of leisure but the rediscovery of an intrinsic relationship with our closest surroundings. There is a nest to unveil in every room!
