Ideal for outdoor enthusiasts, Winkworth Arboretum is abundant with beautiful landscapes and English countryside. Property of the National Trust, the beautiful grounds once owned by Dr. Fox are definitely worth a visit when in Surrey. Located 3.2 km, approx. 2 mi from historical market town Godalming, Winkworth Arboretum is sure to give you a spring in your in step.

Arrival at Winkworth Arboretum will see you immediately surrounded by beautiful forestry. A small wooden hut awaits you and is where you need to head to purchase your ticket. Entrance will cost 7.25 GBP, approx. 10.50 USD. For children it will cost 3.60 GBP, approx. 5.20 USD. Group tickets are also available with a minimum of 15 people costing 6.50 GBP each, approx. 9.40 USD.

It is advertised as mostly accessible for those with disabilities. Personally I would suggest phoning when weather conditions are bad, to find out how slippery the trails are.

Take your pick of twisting trails

Winkworth Arboretum has it all covered. Whether you want an easy and light stroll or a more intense hike, there is a walking trail for everyone. Three different walks have been created and are sign posted throughout – so don’t worry, you won’t lost. Guided walks are also available if you want to indulge in nature and learn about the immense variety of trees and shrubs. With viewpoints scattered throughout, each walk is equally stunning, but I would personally recommend heading towards the lake for a beautiful panoramic and serene view.

Don’t forget to visit the boat house

Sat on the lake is an idyllic boat house. Featured in several British TV shows and dramas, the boathouse is charming. Inside are a few wooden chairs so you can relax and take in the view. Personally I would recommend going in when it’s quiet as you get a real sense of peace and tranquillity.

If you don’t take a photo of anything else whilst visiting Winkworth Arboretum, be sure to take a photo of the boathouse with the lake in front of it – trust me when I say, it’s simply lovely.

A platform with a view

The Viewing Platform

Feeling a little bit tired of walking up the hill? It’s worth it! As you almost reach the top of the trail, in sight will be a wooden viewing platform. Although it feels a tad rickety with a few of you on there, (it’s perfectly safe) the view will see you looking down to acres of greenery is absolutely beautiful.

Treats at Winkworth Arboretum

After all your walking and exploring you’re bound to have worked up an appetite. The Arbor Tea Room is small and quaint, but offers a variety of locally sourced cakes and snacks. Or, if the weather has really got you excited, why not take a picnic.

A few hours at Winkworth Arboretum will be plenty. After your visit pop into Godalming town to explore the high-street. With a variety of boutique and local shops, Godalming also has a lovely river walk framed by weeping willow trees.
