By being centrally located on the north coast of Mombasa, this hotel allows you to have the best views of the Bamburi beach and the Indian Ocean. It is in close proximity to some fantastic restaurants and ice cream parlours and due to its location, the hotel is extremely secure and you will feel safe at all times.

2. Reasonable price

For a 3-star hotel, it still boasts quite spacious grounds, great hospitality and offers real value for money. The hotel has 106 rooms of varying prices, ranging from 4500 KES (approximately 44 USD) to 6500 KES (approximately 63 USD) which are offered on a half-board basis. If you have children, I would advise you to visit during May, June or September as children up to the age of 12 get to stay there for free!

Kenya Bay Beach Hotel has two swimming pools (one for children and one for adults), three restaurants, a boutique, a cyber cafe, multiple conference rooms, a games room and a massage parlour. In the evenings, there is also a variety of entertainment including acrobats, gymnasts and dancers. However, you should be mindful that the evening entertainment is subject to the high tourism season which is from June - October. During the low-season such entertainment is limited, albeit to a DJ who is on-hand to play your favourite songs. There is a large and open dance floor by the pool area which is perfect if you want to get your groove on!

Kenya Bay Beach Hotel is suitable for all types of visitors. It’s perfect for families because of its entertainment team, games room, children’s swimming pool and early dining options for children. It’s a brilliant hotel for those who are elderly or have partial (albeit not fully) mobility issues. This is because the staff are so hospitable that they will gladly provide you with room service and, in some instances, not charge you for it (in light of your circumstances). It’s a great location for couples because its Frangipani Bar and Restaurant gives a real romantic feel in the evenings. It’s suitable for business clients because of the conference rooms and strong Wi-Fi connection.

4. Frangipani Bar and Restaurant

The Frangipani Bar and Restaurant faces the white sands of the Bamburi beach and the beautiful Indian Ocean which is dotted with little boats. There is an entire section which includes a row of comfortable armchairs so that you can relax, put your feet up and enjoy the sunrise and the sunset.

It serves cold and hot drinks as well as food up until the early evening at a reasonable price. The service is prompt, efficient and with a smile. There are also many plug points which will allow you to charge all of your electronic devices. This means that you don’t have to stay in your room whilst your mobile phone or laptop is being charged; you can sit outside and work or browse the internet and upload your fantastic holiday photos!

I would recommend relaxing in the Frangipani Bar and Restaurant in the evening and enjoying the crashing of the Indian Ocean waves and the sparkling stars in the sky. As this hotel is centrally located, you can also see the rest of the coastline lit up at night which is a really romantic setting.

5. Tailor-made cuisine

Whilst the Frangipani Bar & Restaurant offers food, the Acacia Restaurant in the hotel offers breakfast, lunch and dinner on a buffet basis. If you’re worried that the buffet food won’t appeal to your taste buds, fear not, as there are chefs preparing fresh meals from certain produce and seasoning it exactly to how you like it! This is fantastic if you are a vegetarian or you have any allergies and/or specific dietary requirements.

Nevertheless, if you’re having a craving for a certain type of food that is not available at the hotel, your appetite can still be satisfied. This is because the hotel is in close proximity to a number of restaurants along the coastline. For example, the restaurant Ill Covo offers Italian food, and Yules offers the best ice cream on the beach. Both of these establishments are very close to the hotel as they are less than 5 minutes away by foot (and you can access them via the beach!).

6. Savour fresh coconuts

When you’re lying on a sunbed and enjoying the warmth of the African sun, you’re bound to get a little bit thirsty. So why not drink some fresh coconut water? Kenya Bay Beach Hotel is surrounded with large and beautiful coconut trees and occasionally the staff climb up the trees to retrieve the ripe and ready coconuts for your consumption. Whilst the coconuts are being retrieved, health and safety standards are adhered to and the relevant sections are cordoned off from guests - so don’t worry about being hit on the head! I would definitely recommend trying out one of the coconuts. Make sure that you eat the healthy, delicious, smooth and silky flesh that is inside the coconut as this is too delicious to be wasted!

7. Taxis are easily available

Public transportation such as matatus (mini buses) and tuk tuks (small motorised vehicles) in Mombasa can, at times, be unreliable and unsafe and therefore, it is advisable to book a taxi when possible. By having multiple on-site taxis available, Kenya Bay Beach Hotel truly does care about your safety and enjoyment. The taxis can take you to various destinations in Mombasa such as restaurants, supermarkets and museums. The vehicles are modern, clean and include hospitable and friendly drivers.

Don’t you just hate it when you have an evening or late-night flight and you have to check out at 10.00am? Kenya Bay Beach Hotel offers you the opportunity to have a late check-out for free, contingent on availability. This means that you can continue to enjoy the beach and the sunshine as well as have a quick shower before you head off to the airport!

9. Celebrate big events in style at a low budget

Having spent New Year’s Eve at Kenya Bay Beach Hotel, I could not recommend this hotel enough. Whilst the price for the hotel is lower than other hotels on the north coast of Mombasa, no cost was spared when it came to creating an incredible New Year’s Eve celebration. The décor and outside dining in the centre of the hotel was brilliant; there was so much choice on offer. The staff were wonderful, welcoming and doing their absolute best to make my experience a positive one. During the dinner, there were acrobats doing a number of amazing performances and tricks, some of which even included fire!

As the hotel is centrally based, I was also able to walk on the beach and enjoy the buzzing atmosphere and check out what all the other hotels and restaurants were doing too. This was awesome because it felt like I was able to join in on so many parties without having to pay a high cost! During the countdown and at the point of midnight, Kenya Bay Beach Hotel did an absolutely phenomenal fireworks display that left me speechless! Due to the cost of the hotel, I had not expected such a varied and beautiful fireworks display and was so pleasantly surprised and impressed. As a result, I would have to recommend this hotel for how it celebrates occasions and I can’t wait to return again in the future.

The hotel also offers couples the opportunity to have their wedding ceremony or celebration at the hotel and I have no doubt that this would also be brilliant due to my experience of how this hotel organises and executes big events. The hotel is large enough to make any occasion feel special and yet it is also intimate enough for you to feel cosy and close to all of your loved ones.
