So you want to go on a trip to Greece… but is it family friendly? Luckily, Greece is about more than just cocktails on the beach (though I do recommend enjoying a fresh cocktail on the beach). This diverse country has tons of fun family-friendly activities. Don’t believe me? Just check out this list of five awesome things to do in Greece with the whole family! I guarantee by the end of the trip you will wish you could stay.

1. Enjoy a local meal in the comfort of your home

One common way to see Greece as a whole family is to rent a vacation home. It is an easy way to give your family tons of space to relax and enjoy yourselves. If you are planning to stay in a vacation rental—or anywhere with a kitchen—you can call an in-home private chef to cook you a fantastic meal. There are private chefs throughout Greece that will come to your home and cook a fresh and authentic Greek meal for your family. Our meal from the private chefs in Mykonos was the best meal our family had in the country.

It wouldn’t be a trip to Greece without spending some time relaxing on the islands! There are tons of beaches throughout Greece that are great for families. The beaches in Crete are notoriously family-friendly, so you and your family can have tons of fun playing in the sand and water on Crete without worrying about your surroundings. Many local restaurants serve food and drinks to the lounge chairs on the beach, so you don’t even have to stop playing to go eat!

3. Go for a hike on Crete

Crete is also covered with great hiking opportunities. The dedicated hikers can find a more intense option if they are interested, but there are plenty of accessible hikes for families with any level of hiking experience. It is a fun and active way to spend the day. Plus, you will enjoy gorgeous views throughout the hike.

Whether you rent a boat for the whole family or rent a paddleboard and take turns bringing the kids out on it, Greece is a great place for water spots. Some families love the water so much that they decide to take their whole trip on the water, but even if you aren’t cruising your way through Greece, I highly recommend taking some time to get out on the water. Your family will love getting up-close and personal with Greece’s sapphire water.

5. Take a family friendly tour of Athens

Athens is a city full of ancient history. Unfortunately, kids do not always enjoy touring ancient ruins. That is why I love Kids Love Greece. They do a great job of providing family-friendly tours that you and your kids will both love. They do multi-day Greek vacation packages as well as short tours of the Acropolis in Athens. The latter is a great way to show your kids Acropolis in a way they will enjoy. Plus, it will give your children a great introduction to Ancient Greek history.
