London is a thrilling destination to visit, especially during the winter holidays, when it becomes even more attractive and fascinating. This city can surprise you with its beautiful decorations, with a great variety of Christmas fairs and markets, with its traditions, but most of all with its great diversity and abundance of people all over London. If you’re in London in this period of time, there are several activities, which will not only make your Christmas really unforgettable, but also will help you to get closer to the holiday traditions of Londoners. So let’s begin!

Listen to the sumptuous service at St. Paul’s Cathedral

5 must-do’s during the winter holidays in london | listen to the sumptuous service at st. paul’s cathedral

Being one of the most beloved festivities, Christmas in London is unifying the families and bringing all people together. During this period the holiday services in all the churches around London are of great importance, but St. Paul’s cathedral has a special place among them. Being one of the biggest churches in Europe, it is the residence of the Bishop of London. A week before Christmas, sumptuous services are held in the cathedral with the compulsory performance of Christmas carols. Entire families come here to continue the centuries-old tradition. Attending such an event will make a great impression on you. You will not only take your time to admire the luxurious interior of the cathedral, but also listen to the soulfully singing choristers and triumphal play of the cathedral organ. By the way, you even don’t need to pay for such a memorable event. The doors are opened an hour before the announced start time of the service, but because of its popularity the queue is really long. So you’ll have to come pretty early and arm yourself with patience, but I promise it will be a memorable experience for you!

Visit the Christmas fairs in London!

One of the main entertaining activities for the whole family is visiting a Christmas fair, and you really have from where to choose, as there are quite a few in London, the most famous being Winter Wonderland in Hyde park. The other ones are: Southbank Centre Winter Festival, Christmas Market at Tate Modern, London Bridge City Christmas Market, Christmas at Kew, Barbican Christmas Market, Winterville at Victoria Park. The Christmas fairs are an unforgettable memory for the whole family as all of them are made to lure you into the fairy tale atmosphere. When visiting such a fair you not only discover the most famous sights of London, but also drink the traditional Christmas Gluhwein, which is actually hot mulled wine, taste some delicious traditional Christmas food, have fun on the fairground rides and, of course, buy some absolutely special and unique gifts for your beloved ones.

Shop on the main shopping street of London!

Shopping is always a good idea, especially when you have such a great variety to choose from. Oxford Street is the right place for that. In addition to being one of the main touristic attractions of London, it is the best place for buying some cool items for yourself and your family. Several British retail chains consider Oxford Street brunch to be their flagship stores such as: Debenhams, Selfridges, House of Fraser, Marks & Spencers. You can also find here such international brands as: Zara, Bershka, H&M, Pull&Bear, Stradivarius, and many others. I guarantee you, that you’ll not only get lost among all those shops and brands, but at the end of the day will find yourself carrying dozens of shopping bags, especially if you are in London during the winter sales. Talking about sales I must admit that it is a pure madness, so you’ll need a lot of patience and perseverance, as the shops will be overcrowded, but in return for this you will find really good prices in your favourite shops.

Live a luxury experience in the shopping paradise of Harrods!

5 must-do’s during the winter holidays in london | live a luxury experience in the shopping paradise of harrods!

If we continue talking about shopping, which is an absolutely interminable theme for me, there’s one more place which you should visit, if not for buying something at least for seeing it as a site of interest. I am speaking about the shopping paradise - Harrods. There’s no better place in the whole city where you can do window shopping and admire all those insanely beautiful window displays with outlandish decorations, all covered in lights with mannequins dressed in fabulous clothes. As I’ve already mentioned, it’s a pure paradise for shopaholics. The shopping center itself is like a museum, where you can gaze for hours at all those luxury designer clothes from brands as Max Mara, Armani, Dolce&Gabbana, Burberry, Saint Laurent and many others. So if your budget is not allowing you these luxury fashion things, at least visit Harrods to see the latest catwalk trends and maybe even getting a consultancy in fashion and style from the professional sales managers.

I am a London tour guide and my tours include talking about people who have shaped the city plus the many connected places such as Hampton Court Palace, The Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, the commercial centre of the city: the City of London, and London’s world class museums and galleries. I have been guiding for 12 years. I am a licenced London Blue Badge Tour Guide, a City of London Guide, and a Westminster Guide. The reviews I receive from clients speak of their enjoyment from the local knowledge and the humour I bring to my tours. Born within sight of Hampton Court Palace, I am a Londoner and apart from 2 years in the Middle East, I have worked in this capital city all my business and tour guiding careers. I have travelled widely and I appreciate what appeals to visitors coming to London. I can tailor my tours to interest children. I guide couples, families and larger tour groups. I particularly enjoy visits to Westminster Abbey, where I also volunteer guiding students and children through its wonderful interior – on my tours you will hear about monarchs, why scientists and poets are remembered, the architecture and religious history. The Abbey is the story of England. Come on an engaging and fun tour with me. There is so much to show you !
