For newlyweds going on their honeymoon, or a pair of lovers looking to boost romance on Valentine’s Day (14th February), there are many places to choose from. Bali, known as the Island of the Gods, is one of the top destinations due to its fascinating traditions and natural beauty. The easiest way, of course, is to buy a tour package from any of the agencies either in your country or in Bali, but unfortunately you can’t choose which destinations you want to visit, and are bound to tight schedules; especially when the package includes many destinations to cover in just a few days. For the romantic getaway in Bali, buying a tour package isn’t the only option. You can book a hotel of your choice and check out the following activities:
1. Explore Bali on a motorbike with your partner

Venturing around tourist-packed Kuta and Denpasar with a car, or on foot, isn’t a very good idea for many due to the traffic jams and the hot scorching midday sun. Instead, why not rent a motorbike in one of the bike rental shops in Bali? It’s cheap as it only costs roughly 4.30 USD per day for the rent, and it’s energy efficient as it can travel for around 40 km for a liter of gas, which costs 8,100 IDR (0.51 USD)! It’s also efficient as it has been proven to pass through jammed roads due to its small size, and most importantly, it’s romantic too! You and your sweetheart can share the less-than-one-meter saddle. What outdoor intimacy!
A useful tip: Go to ‘Bali Bike Rental’ to rent one in the Kuta area, as you can choose to rent a scooter, 'bebek’ (literally means 'duck’, which is a type scooter, but with manual transmission),or a bigger racing motorbike!
2. Make chocolate bars together

A bar of chocolate is the heart-winning food, often given to the loved ones (including your sweetheart) to show your affection for them. Incredibly, in Bali you two can fall deeper in love in a chocolate factory! There are some chocolate factories on the island (one of them is ‘Pod Chocolate’ in Carangsari) where you can have a chocolate tour inside the factory. Not only will you eat chocolate bars, but you will get involved in the process from cacao harvesting to even making the chocolate bars!
A useful tip: Go for the tour at Pod Chocolate in Carangsari, a 30-minute drive to the east from Ubud for the biggest factory and the most popular chocolate tour. It costs 90 USD per couple.
3. Watch an exotic sunset in Tanah Lot

Perhaps you know of the sunset in Tanah Lot temple only from a postcard someone has sent you, and if the postcard has already fascinated you, wait until you see the real Tanah Lot sunset! Many tourists visit this place only for a few hours, having to leave before sunset because they have other places to visit. But let me tell you - don’t leave before you see the sunset here! Watching the sunset here is like watching the heavenly light shining upon the temple before it vanishes into the night. Also, don’t forget to make a wish and it will surely come true!
A useful tip: Bring a camera/phone camera with higher resolution otherwise you will get very blurred images of the setting sun. It costs only 8,000 IDR (0.53 USD) for the entrance to Tanah Lot per person.

4. Look at how beautiful she is with the colorful butterflies on her

Want to have a close encounter with butterflies? Go to Bali Butterfly Park in the Tabanan district of Denpasar. In here, the butterflies (they have some other giant insects like grasshoppers too) are much bigger than the ones you see elsewhere. Let your sweet-heart be decorated with some colorful giant butterflies and see how pretty she is with the butterflies on her hair, clothes, and hands. How can the butterflies perch on you? Surely they don’t do that voluntarily. The staff will catch some and put them on you, and then it’s time to snap your camera and make this moment eternal!
A useful tip: It costs 50,000 IDR (3.60 USD) for the entrance fee.
5. Have a romantic dinner by the sea

Beaches in Bali are known for their exoticism. There you will often see Balinese-styled structures, like what you find on temples in the island, placed here and there, where this kind of phenomenon isn’t found on other beaches around the world. Therefore, a dinner by the beach is a must-do thing for you and your loved one while in Bali. All 4-star hotels and above located by the beach in Bali offer dinners at the beach, but let me tell you a little secret.. You don’t need to stay there to enjoy a romantic dinner as their restaurants are open for non-hotel guests as well!
A useful tip: When in Kuta, go to Ocean 27 Beach Club & Grill for live music and more affordable foods (compared to many other ‘romantic’ restaurants).
Plan your romantic getaway in Bali
What I have mentioned above are only a few of many other things both of you can do in Bali as a couple. Dancing performances, biking tours, and beach activities like snorkeling are among them. So don’t hesitate, book your plane ticket to Bali for Valentine’s Day and experience romance in Bali!
