If what you seek is a secluded island retreat, look no further than Cempedak Island. This lovely destination is 2.5 hours away from Singapore and offers an experience you’ll never forget. Lombok, Indonesia is not as popular as Bali, but it is as alluring and enticing. Simply take a direct flight from Singapore to this glorious island and you are up for some serious R&R. Its white-sand beaches and lush forests are a perfect combination for a great outdoor experience. Indonesians prefer Lombok because everything here is more economical and cost-friendly. 3. Krabi, Thailand: detoxify and rejuvenate (1 hour 40 minutes)

If, however, you need some therapeutic exhaustion, try climbing and trekking. And oh, just in case you didn’t know, the 1999 film The Beach was filmed at Maya Bay, which is found on Krabi.

To get there, take a direct flight from Singapore to Phuket. It would take around an hour and 40 minutes. After that, take the 40-minute speedboat ride from Rassada Pier to Maya Bay in Krabi.

4. Nikoi Island, Bintan, Indonesia: a private island to behold (2 hours 30 minutes)

The luxurious Nikoi is a private resort island that is around 8 kilometers (~5 mi) off Bintan, Indonesia. It was acquired by an Australian couple who visited Bintan in 2005. Since that visit, the couple fell in love and began developing it to what is now known as Nikoi Island. The resort has fifteen beach houses and is included on the list of the best private islands in the world.

Being so close to nature will make anyone feel like a Robinson Crusoe castaway. Coral reefs, clear waters, wildlife sightings and so much more are what makes this island distinctly glorious. The island offers vacation packages for couples, newlyweds, families and children. Anyone who sets foot on the island can either be a beach comber, an island hopper, a fisherman, a sailer, or a lazy beach bum. The list goes on. The best time to visit is from December to February.

5. Enjoy isolation at Layang Layang, Kota Kinabalu, the "Swallows Reef" (3 hours 30 minutes)

Layang-Layang Island also known as the “Swallows Reef” nestles in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. It is known for offering its visitors total isolation from the daily grind. The man-made facility was constructed for the Malaysian Navy, which later turned into a resort. Today, it earned its reputation as being one of the top ten dive locations in the world.

Aside from being a surfer’s haven, the island seethes with rich aquatic life. From seahorses, cuttlefish, pipefish to its schools of hammerhead sharks, grey reef sharks and stingrays, reconnecting with marine life is going to be quite entertaining. This experience will bring back that appreciation of nature — something that gets lost during the working grind.
