A popular tourist attraction is the 12 Apostles, a group of limestone mounds in close proximity to one another at Port Campbell National Park offshore. The 12 Apostles were formed some 10–20 million years ago as a result of erosion of the soft limestone to take the shape of caves in the cliffs due to the harsh weather conditions of the Southern Ocean. The caves eventually took the shape of curves and after their collapse, 45 meters high rock mounds were left isolated from the shore. The 12 Apostles are awesome at sunrise and sunset because of their changing color. It turns a dazzling sandy yellow under a full sun. Check out this list of hotels and vacation rentals nearby!
