Block Island, named after Dutch explorer Adriaen Block, is only a ferry ride away from Rhode Island. Block Island is made up of 40 percent conservation land. The island features cliffs, and lighthouses such as the North Lighthouse, which was built in 1867. Five beaches are scattered around the island: State, Surf, Scotch, Rouses’s and Mansion Beach. There’s also a national wildlife refuge here called US Weather Bureau Station. If you feel like learning a little bit more about history, check out the Block Island Historical Museum. For some fresh air and a great view, visit Block Island’s harbor. There is also a wind farm here. It is the first of its kind in the states. Check out these great places to stay while you are visiting this beautiful island.
