Hotels & Vacation Rentals Near Chateau d'If, France

The Chateau d'If is probably the most popular chateau in France. Made famous by Alexandre Dumas in the widely popular book The Count of Monte Cristo. The Chateau d'If is located on the smallest island in France’s Frioul archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea. It is almost 3 miles out of the port of Marseilles, which can easily be seen from the island. For anyone not familiar with the book, the Chateau d'If is a prison and fortress. The use of the prison has stopped since the 19th century. The chateau used to house one of the most feared and notorious jails in France. If you’re spending some time in Marseilles, do visit this piece of French literary history. There are some fine hotels and vacation rentals near Chateau d'If.
