A town in the Agra District of Uttar Pradesh, India, Fatehpur Sikri was founded in 1569 by the Mughal Emperor. The town served as the capital of the Mughal Empire from 1571 to 1585, until it was abandoned. Today, Fatehpur Sikri provides one of the exemplary examples of Mughal architecture in India. Most of the buildings situated in town were constructed from locally quarried red sandstone, also known as Sikri sandstone. Walk around, and admire the amazing architecture that withstood years of weathering. Situated within the town, is the Tomb of Salim Chishti, a Sufi saint of the Chishti Order; an order known for its emphasis on love, tolerance and openness.
