Once a year, downtown Tampa in Florida is invaded by pirates. Thousands of visitors don pirate-themed costumes and enjoy the many festive events held during Gasparilla Season. Named after the infamous pirate, Jose Gaspar, who terrorized the waters of West Florida in the 18th and 19th century. The Pirate Fest kicks off with the arrival of the ship, Jose Gasparilla, containing over 700 pirates that “invade” downtown. The pirates bring their plunder with them for guests to enjoy. The event continues with the Parade of Pirates, the 3rd largest parade in the US stretching over 4 miles long. Enjoy both daytime and nighttime events with shopping at local vendors stalls. The Gasparilla Pirate Fest Street Festival is the place to be for fun, live music, food and entertainment including a nightly fireworks show.
