The City of Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina is known for the Neretva River: a stunning river that cuts through the city. Built across this river is a bridge known as the Stari Most in local lingo. This simply translates to Old Bridge. It is a major landmark in the area. The bridge was first built in the year 1566. It stood for 427 years, before it was bombed down in 1993 during the Croat-Bosniak War. The Old Bridge was then rebuilt and reborn in 2004. Spanning a length of 29 meters, the Old Bridge connects the two parts of the city. This stunning bridge is today, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From here, you can visit the Muzej Hercegovine Museum: home to numerous artifacts which offer a wealth of information on the cultural history of the country. Another landmark worth visiting is the Karadoz Bey Mosque, a 16th-century mosque that was designed by Turkish architect Mimar Sinan. Looking for a place to stay?
