Hotels & Vacation Rentals Near Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park, Hawaii, USA

Sitting on the western shore of the island of Hawaii is a 180-acre historic park. Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park rests on the Honaunau Bay and gives visitors a look at the island culture. The park was once a place of refuge. When natives broke the law and received a sentence of death they fled to the Pu'uhonua. If they reached it before being caught they were considered to be protected by the gods and could not be harmed. Visitors are allowed to walk through the park where you can see the temple where the bones of ancient chiefs rest. You will also see many ancient wooden carvings around the temple. Since this is still considered a sacred place be sure to read the restrictions on what you cannot bring or do in the park. Are you planning a Hawaiian vacation?
