One of the most impressive buildings in Madison, Wisconsin, is the Wisconsin State Capitol. The seat of Wisconsin’s state government looks much like the US capitol in Washington, DC, with a large dome and columned exterior. The Wisconsin State Capitol is full of history. Built between 1906 and 1917, it is actually the fifth building to serve as the state’s capitol since it was granted statehood in 1848. The building is constructed from dozens of types of stone from six different states, and the Bethel white granite of the exterior makes its dome the largest granite dome in the world. The capitol is a must-see in Madison and if you’re visiting with a group of less than ten, no reservations are necessary. Read on for some of the best hotel and vacation rentals in the area.
