Versova in northwestern Mumbai, India has a long history. The area used to be part of the Portuguese Empire until 1739. Now, Versova is an upscale neighborhood known for its beach and Versova Fort. Under Portuguese rule, the colonizers built the “Our Lady of Health Church,” resulting in the conversion of many locals to Christianity. By 1720, Versova was a bustling town with a small fort and trading posts. The neighborhood beach looks out to the Arabian Sea where many fishermen make their living. Nearby is “Rock Beach,” which is visited by people of all ages and is a great place to watch the sunset. Versova is a nice place to spend the holidays or your vacation.
