For a beautiful vacation spot in Downtown Oakland, California, the area around Yoshi’s sushi restaurant and nightclub is perfect. You’ll be moments away from the waterfront and Jack London Square, which is a locale named after the famous author. While you’re in the area, visit the author’s cabin. It was relocated from the Klondike. You can also pop into the famous Heinold’s First and Last Chance Saloon for a drinking experience much the same as it was back when the bar opened in 1883. Just take care walking across the tilting floor: a feature of the place since the 1906 great San Francisco quake. For food, try the famous Dungeness Crab Seafood Cioppino at Scott’s Seafood in the Square. It makes for a delectable delicacy. Other activities in the area include kayaking in the harbour, bicycle rides along the waterfront, visiting a regular Sunday Farmer’s Market, and catching a movie outdoors. You can even tour Franklin D. Roosevelt’s presidential yacht—the USS Potomac—moored close by.
