Fattoria Torre a Cona is a winery in San Donato, a hillside town located about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) southeast of Florence. There are several different houses on the property which offer apartments and rooms that can accommodate anywhere from 2 guests to 20.

The name of the estate is a mouthful. Fattoria Torre a Cona in San Donato in Collina. Fattoria means farmhouse, and Torre a Cona is the winery estate. Literally the Tower of Cona, which is an actual tower that can be seen from the property. San Donato is the very small town 1 kilometer (.6 miles) from the estate. In collina means in the hills. A farmhouse near the tower of Cona in San Donato in the hills. Or to put it more eloquently: paradise in the heart of Chianti.

If you are traveling to Florence by plane or train, there are several different ways to get to Torre a Cona. The best option is to rent a car, this will take care of any headache you might have trying to get to and from the property. However, if you are not interested in driving through the hectic streets of Florence, you do have the option to take a bus or a taxi. A taxi will be much easier on the first trip with luggage in tow. The bus is much cheaper of course and takes about 35 minutes to get from the center of Florence to San Donato and is a great way of entrenching yourself in local life.

Casa Villa

The Casa Villa is the biggest house on the property. It can sleep 16-20 people. The house can be rented as a whole, or divided into four independent apartments, the Giardino, Piccolo, Camino and the Piccionaia apartments.

As a whole, the farmhouse is perfect for big groups traveling together, family reunions, or wedding parties. The terracotta roofed peachy orange farmhouse has been renovated and has 8 rooms on four floors. Four areas have been made into adjoining apartments that have their own kitchens, washing machines and bathrooms. On the first floor is a community kitchen and a table that can easily seat up to 22 people. There is also a game room with a ping pong table.

Each room has air conditioning, free wifi, a TV, and a safe. The rooms that have kitchens also have dishwashers, washing machines, microwaves, and coffee makers. They are spacious and each have an armoire.

Outside the Casa Villa is a private covered eating area and a BBQ and a playground.

There is a shared pool on the property that is well kept, with lounge chairs and umbrellas. It’s only a short walk from Casa Villa on a shaded trail through the wonderful olive groves. The pool is open early May to late September.

Pricing and amenities

Torre a Cona has four seasons when it comes to pricing. Low, Mid, High, and Extra High. Prices fluctuate depending upon the time of year.

Extremely family-friendly, there is plenty of room to run and explore here. There are also many amenities for those traveling with small children. Cribs, high chairs and guard rail for beds. They even have baby equipment available. Changing tables, baby bath, baby carrier and security gates.

If you feel inspired to ride the twisting turning roads through the countryside, mountains bikes can be rented as well.

Eating at Torre a Cona

Stop off at a grocery store, there are several on the way from Florence to San Donato, and you can pick up a package of fresh pasta, sauce and bread and make a rather wonderful dinner to share with friends. But the highlight of your meal will be the fact that if you take a very short hike to the main estate building, you can purchase wonderful bottles of red wine made from the very vines that surrounded you. Something about fresh pasta and a good bottle of wine in the beauty of Tuscany that makes every meal memorable.

If you don’t want to cook, for an extra fee, you can have a continental breakfast in the wine shop as well as have a chef prepare dinner for you in your apartment.

If you know you are arriving late, you can also request a welcome pack. For every four people the pack includes butter, jam, bread, pasta, water, milk, tea, coffee, tomato sauce and cheese. You can also ask for other items to be provided for you as long as you do so at the time of your booking.
