Travelers usually desire a hotel that’s new, clean, and offers a central location. The Aspen Suites Hotel in Anchorage, Alaska offers this trifecta of bullet points in choosing a hotel. Built in 2012, this nearly new hotel is fast becoming a favorite of travelers in the know.

If you are driving to the Aspen Hotel and Suites, you’ll find plenty of parking. If you are arriving on a cruise ship or by plane, consider taking an Uber ride or taxi as the hotel is less than 15 minutes away. This midtown location is convenient to nearby restaurants, shopping, and tourist attractions.

The entrance just inside is tastefully decorated with local nature scenes. At the reception desk, the friendly staff will help with local information if needed. Close to the reception desk are two computers and a printer for guests to use 24 hours per day to conduct any business or research. Choose from 92 suites in either a queen suite or a queen suite with two queen beds configuration. Note that the queen suite with one bed also comes with a full-sized sofa sleeper. After checking in, take the elevator to reach the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floor suites. Some 4th floor rooms have decent views.

The suites are very well appointed and have plenty of space for families with lots of luggage. Each suite comes with a dining table, coffee machine, stovetop, kitchenware, full-size fridge, and microwave. With real cutlery, plates, glasses and bowls, it’s possible to prepare a home cooked meal in your suite. The bathrooms are spacious and equipped with a tub/shower combination. Water pressure is strong and hot water is plentiful for a long hot shower after a full day in the land of the midnight sun. Speaking of the midnight sun, the blackout curtains function quite well for those needing a very dark room to sleep. The location is fairly quiet as it’s not near the highway or busy city streets. For a quieter room ask for one on the backside that faces away from East Tudor Road.

biz center

For those wanting a workout, find a fitness center on-site with a multi-use weight machine, exercise bike, and treadmills. Laundry machines (coin operated) and vending machines are on each floor for guests’ convenience. Free Wi-Fi is available in all the rooms and common areas to make staying connected a breeze. As mentioned above, find the business center by the reception desk. Pet rooms are available upon request. Contact the hotel for pet rates and restrictions before booking.

Downtown Anchorage is less than a ten-minute drive away and features several shops selling local arts and crafts. Downtown restaurants like the 49th State Brewing Company offer good food and views for lunch and dinner. Be sure and stop at the log cabin visitor’s center if you want more information on the Anchorage area and beyond. Be sure and read my article on Anchorage to get an idea of activities in Alaska’s biggest city. There’s a good mix of indoor and outdoor attractions for everyone in this sparkling city on the shores of the Cook Inlet. The Alaska Aviation Museum is located between the Anchorage International Airport and Lake Hood. This is one of the best museums in North America for bush plane history and is about a ten-minute drive from the hotel.

Reasonably priced

Whether you are looking for a short stay or a long stay, the Aspen Suites Hotel in Anchorage is one of the best I’ve found in my twenty years of visiting Alaska. With all these positive attributes, you might think the price would be higher than average, but for most of the summer season, their rates are quite reasonable.
