Eating is definitely one of the most joyful events on your journey to a new land. It is especially so when you visit Hawaii, because food in Hawaii is simply amazing; particularly the fresh local veggies and fruits. If you enjoy fresh local goodies, why don’t you stop by the Waikiki Farmers Market, which is held every Thursday at Waikiki Hyatt.

Farmers market in the heart of Waikiki

Farmers markets take place all over Honolulu, so you will most likely be able to find the one you want to go to on any given day of the week. However, like many tourists staying in Waikiki, the closest and most convenient one that you can just walk up to, is held on every Thursday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Waikiki Hyatt. The Waikiki Hyatt is in the heart of Waikiki on Kalakaua Avenue, so you can stop by the Waikiki Farmers Market on the way back from Waikiki Beach, and grab something to eat before heading back to your hotel.

Find the best deals at Waikiki Farmers Market

It is a fact that food in Hawaii is expensive, just like anything else, because it is an island where there are a lot of import fees to be added for shipping the items from elsewhere. Therefore, you can simply imagine how expensive some things can be. Though, if you have lived, or been in Hawaii longer, you start finding places where you can get the best deals to buy food and other daily necessities, but for those of you that are tourists, you may not have the time to be checking out all the stores.

As for fresh local veggies and fruits though, you definitely want to check out the local farmers markets where you can find plenty of fresh veggies and fruits that local farmers grow with care. At Waikiki Farmers Market, you will find local fresh fruits, like pineapples, bananas, and papayas, as well as fresh veggies, like tomatoes, corn, and lettuce. Just a quick example, I purchased some corn from the Waikiki Farmers Market on one Thursday that cost me 3.50 USD, which is usually around 5 USD at the supermarket.

Drink up the fresh local coconut water

Because of its location, many of the visitors to this farmers market are tourists. Compared to other farmers markets located outside of Waikiki, you see a lot more visitors who are looking for fun items to spice up their visit in Hawaii. I saw a few tourists drinking from a big coconut with a straw, smiling to their spouse or friend for a very tropical picture. I mean if you are visiting, why would you miss buying a fresh local coconut to drink it up, and pose, rather than buying packaged coconut water, right? Coconut water is so good for you, especially in a tropical climate like Hawaii. So definitely enjoy Waikiki Farmers Market, and don’t be afraid to smile and photograph a fun, memorable picture.

Sit back and dine at Waikiki Farmers Market

Waikiki Farmers Market is held on Thursday evenings, so you actually see a lot of people buying veggies, fruits, salads, pastries, and having dinner at the location. There are seating areas available in Waikiki Hyatt right by the farmers market, so you see a lot of people having dinner as early as 4:00pm right after it starts. If it is too early for dinner, you can of course just snack on whatever you purchased there too. The seating areas are nicely shaded so you can sit back and relax. You can most certainly purchase some items, and take them back to your hotel room, so that you can always have something healthy and fresh to snack on from the farmers market later.

You can find souvenirs too!

Apart from just food items, you can also find items that are perfect for souvenirs at the Waikiki Farmers Market. From accessories to cute ducky soaps, there are a variety of items that are made by local artists displayed at the market. These could be Hawaiian inspired accessories, or could be organic cosmetic items made from local honey, and other health conscious items as well. The ducky soaps are handmade, and are 100% natural and organic, so they make the perfect gifts for those who enjoy something cute that smells nice, and are good for one’s health. Indeed, you can find a lot of different things at this farmers market, and by purchasing items at the farmer’s market, you are supporting Hawaiian local artists.

Colorful and fresh in the heart of Waikiki

If you are staying for few days, or a week in Hawaii, I highly recommend you visit one of the farmers markets held in Honolulu. Besides from the fact that you can get healthy, fresh local veggies and fruits, you are also helping local businesses, so it is really a win-win situation. Plus, food in Hawaii is good, but the food you can find at the farmers market is just way better. It could be because you get to engage directly with those who make and grow the food, or it could be because those items are simply super fresh, just being brought from the farm the day of the farmers market. From pastries, bread, coffee, salad, and even accessories, there is always a great energy that fills the Waikiki Farmers Market. Even if you decide not buy anything, you will be entertained by the colorful fruits and veggies, and also by the smiles you see on everyone’s faces.
