1. Marxim
Pizza and communism. What do they have in common? Nothing! Except when you enter this hole in the wall pizza and Italian joint in Budapest. The walls are covered with communist paraphernalia but don’t let that turn you off. Their pizza is known to be some of the greatest available in Budapest. Head over for some cheap, delicious pizza and to socialize with the locals!

2. Hummus Bar
Posted by hummusbar on Tuesday, 4 April 2017
Hands down the best hummus I have had in my whole life came from this place. The Hummus Bar does appear modern and a bit trendy, with its slick black and white design, but don’t be fooled. Prices are reasonable and the fare is nothing short of amazing if looking for traditional hummus, falafel, shwarma and the like. Expect to see fellow expats here since the staff is very friendly and speak English. Also don’t be surprised finding yourself coming here multiple days during your trip, it is that good, and with three locations, hard not to be near one!

3. My Little Melbourne
A long weekend is always a good idea. ☕️ #weekend #butfirstcoffee
Posted by My Little Melbourne Coffee on Sunday, 4 June 2017
Just like trendy places in Melbourne, Australia, this coffee shop raises the bar on coffee quality, and the range of beans in which they sell and use for their espresso. Opening at 7am and staying open until 7pm means you have no reason not to stop by during a long sightseeing day to grab a perfectly blended latte or espresso, a comfortable seat, and relax a bit.

An all you can eat Hungarian restaurant for under 20 USD per person in the center of Budapest. Need we say more? Choose from their variety of weekday buffets, weekend buffets (which can be a bit more expensive) or special themed buffets on major national holidays. Either way come hungry or get your moneys worth at this exquisite local favorite! This is also a great place to make new friends and meet some locals!

Not your typical burger joint! They have taken a great quality burger, put a 70’s drive in movie theater vibe on their restaurant space, and wallah, have a goldmine. Locals and tourists come together here on movie theater type seats to enjoy their juicy burgers starting at 3 USD! They also have some delicious cocktails on offer as well for reasonable prices, just in case you were thirsty with that burger.

Most made our list because it is a beautiful outdoor bistro in the center of Budapest. The space is great for large groups or families to dine together or drink together. Their menu is varied so you can share some delicious traditional Hungarian food, or some western influenced appetizers and entrees. Prices are reasonable and they have excellent reviews, so head on over with all your friends for a great evening out!

A cute, small, specialty coffee shop in the center, that is getting a lot of attention for its specialty brews. We love the small, cozy, rustic space that this coffee shop is located in, and love that the staff is one of the best parts of it too!

A great place to hangout, grab cheap Hungarian food and live like a local! They are open everyday but be prepared for lines at busy meal times as this place is quite popular among locals. They have traditional Hungarian bean soup, all types of bread and baguettes with lots of meat and cheeses to choose from. It also functions as a bar, with the lead boys working there, bringing customers back time after time for their friendliness! They are known as the best value for money food you can find in Budapest and we highly suggest heading there, even just for a cheap drink!

10. Párisi Passage Restaurant

Once the headquarters of a financial company and an exclusive shopping area, Párisi Passage Restaurant is now a high-end hotel and restaurant and one of my favorite buildings in Budapest. When you visit this restaurant for a scrumptious dinner, don’t forget to take a few pictures of its grand facade featuring a unique mixed architectural style, which is truly a spectacle at night!
11. Csalánosi Csárda Óbuda

Csalánosi Csárda Óbuda is located in the Main Square of Obuda. It’s one of our favorite places to celebrate. Not only does the restaurant offer good food in huge portions, but it also lets you enjoy authentic gypsy music and Hungarian Csardas tunes during your meal!
12. Cintányéros

Are you searching for the best place to taste tartar steak in Budapest? Then make a reservation at Cintanyeros. But do you know about the origins of this dish? The Tatars (Mongols) invaded Hungary in 1241 but unexpectedly withdrew a few months later, leaving the country in ruins. Despite popular culture associating their invasion with the creation of ‘Tartar steak,’ there is little evidence to support this claim. Nevertheless, indulge in this delicious dish while exploring the city’s culinary delights.
The amazing food doesn’t stop here!
These are just some of our favorites in and around Budapest, but believe us, it was not easy picking only ten! If you are looking for something fun to do or a great place to rest at night, head over to our other articles all about what to do while in Budapest and the best places to stay in Budapest!
