The Chittaurgarh Fort is the largest fort structure in India, situated on a hill, about 180 metres (590.5 feet) in height and is spread over 13 km (8 miles). It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is of immense value for Rajputs as its stories reverberate heroism and sacrifice. It was the erstwhile capital of Mewar and is located in Chittaurgarh town. The fort has many palaces inside it, as well as many gates, Hindu temples and commemoration towers.

2. Visit the Vijay Stambha

It is also known as the Victory Tower, the Vijay Stambha was built by Maharana Kumbha between 1440 and 1448 in remembrance of the victory over the Muslim invader Khilji. Built with red sandstone and white marble, this structural wonder is a nine-storey tower which has been elaborately decorated with sculptures of Hindu gods and goddesses. It is a popular tourism site in Chittaurgarh and people in the thousands flock here from India and all over the world.

3. Rani Padmini's Palace

Rani Padmini’s Palace has a very important role in Chittaurgarh’s history. The palace was built near the banks of a lotus pond and provided privacy for the ladies of the Rajput royal family. Legend has it that the Muslim invader Ala-ud-din Khilji, ruler of Delhi, saw a glimpse of Rani Padmini in the pool and was so captured by her beauty, he led his armies in battle to capture her.

4. Kalika Mata Temple

It was later dedicated in the 14th century to the Goddess Kali, the symbol of power and valor. Rana Kumbha palace is the Majestic palace where Rana Kumbha lived and its glorious and artistic architecture is a must visit for tourists visiting Chittaurgarh. The ruins are of great historical and architectural importance and it is located in Chittaurgarh Fort. The palace has underground cellars where Queen Padmini and other royal ladies committed self-immolation or ‘Jauhar’ when the Muslim invaders tried to capture them.

This palace in Chittaurgarh has an elaborate layout and its architecture is mind blowing. It was constructed by Maharana Fateh Singh, and it was his residence. It was built according to Rajput style of architecture and has a huge collection of wood carvings of Bassi village, statues of Jain Ambica and Indra, axes, knives and ancient shields. It also has clay statues of tribal people wearing their traditional costumes and elaborate paintings.

7. Marvel at the Kirti Stambh

The Kirti Stambh or Tower of Fame is dedicated to Adinathji who was the first great Jain teacher or ‘Tirthankara’. It is adorned by figures of Digambars or Jain monks. It is a seven-storied tower constructed by a wealthy Jain religion follower in the 12th century. It is situated inside the Chittaurgarh Fort grounds and can be seen when visiting the fort. One needs to climb up the tower to have a spectacular view of Chittaurgarh town.
