Malta is a sleepy island located off the southern coast of Italy. It’s a small island with big personality. From sparkling sapphire waters to gorgeous sandstone architecture, every inch of this island looks straight out of a postcard. Malta has a little bit of everything; museums, hiking trails, churches, sandy beaches… whatever kind of traveler you are, you will find something to love about this island. One of the many things I loved about my time in Malta (along with all the outdoor adventures and historic sights I enjoyed during my trip) was my stay at Boho Hostel. This peaceful little paradise, tucked among the local residences in St. Julian’s, was the perfect hostel in Malta. It really embodies the island spirit. Here’s why I loved Boho Hostel, as well as a few things you should know when deciding whether or not to book here.

A quiet paradise for a great price

The outdoor space at Boho is the perfect place to read a book and enjoy the sunshine.

If I had to choose one word to describe the atmosphere at Boho Hostel, I would choose peaceful. Of course by nature of it being a hostel, this is bound to change depending on the guests, but overall the environment at Boho is one conducive to rest and relaxation. I spent my mornings drinking tea in the outdoor space, taking turns swinging in the hammock and lounging on the couch. In the evenings the other hostel guests and I would take refuge from the mosquitos in the living room or share recipes in the kitchen. Boho is a friendly hostel and a great place to meet fellow travelers, but when bedtime rolls around the hostel quiets down and it’s easy to get the sleep you need for the next full day of travel. That can be hard to find in hostels, and it made my stay at this hostel in Malta that much more enjoyable.

One of the neatest hostels I've ever seen

The clean and cozy bedrooms in Boho are a great deal for your money!

By this I mean both meanings of the word. The hostel is incredibly tidy and the hostel staff works hard to keep it that way. I don’t think I’ve ever stayed in a hostel as clean as Boho. From the spotless kitchens and bathrooms to the organized and trash-less dorm rooms, I was constantly amazed by how comfortable my stay at Boho was. But like I said, Boho Hostel is neat in both ways. It’s also one of the coolest hostels I’ve stayed in. From their hip decor to their bohemian living space, it’s no wonder they named it Boho. I found myself attached to my camera as I explored this hostel because every inch of it was worth photographing.

Everything you need... and much more

The common areas in Boho Hostel cover all your bases. You'll want for nothing!

One of the things I loved most about this hostel in Malta was the amenities. The kitchen is huge and fully equipped with everything you could need. The living space features a working television, a book swap, an incredibly organized shelf with tips about what to do on the island, a vending machine with sodas, water, and beer, and incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Throughout the hostel you also have access to Wi-Fi, and it’s a better Wi-Fi connection than I ever dared dream of. To top it all off, the showers offer an endless supply of hot water. Boho Hostel has made an effort to truly supply anything and everything you could need, and the effort does not go unnoticed.

This hostel in Malta may not be in the center of town, but it's worth the walk

The only downside of Boho Hostel is that it is not centrally located. It’s walking distance to downtown Sliema, a popular place for tourists in Malta, but even then there are hostels located much closer to the bay. This can be a turn off, sure, but if you’re not opposed to a bit of walking, Boho is worth the trek. Because except for the fact that I was sharing a dorm room with strangers, I honestly felt like I was staying in a hotel. And that’s just not the vibe I usually get from a hostel. I loved my stay at this hostel in Malta and at 16.50 EUR/ 18 USD per night (45 EUR/ 49 USD for the private room), it’s definitely worth it. If you are looking for a high quality, affordable hostel in Malta, I highly recommend you check out Boho Hostel.
