The history of Casa Bonay

The 1869 building was once a textile shop and apartment building and is now Casa Bonay hotel. It underwent painstaking renovations including linoleum floors being chipped away by hand after the discovery of marvelous original mosaic tiles. A section of the rear of the building was also removed to guarantee each room received natural sunlight. The garage is now an extensive lounge with its original iron columns.

The ideal neighborhood

Entering Casa Bonay on Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, you bypass bookshelves full of books provided by the local independent publisher, Blackie Books. Situated in the Eixample district you are five minutes’ walk to the Arc De Triomf. Just past the arch is Parc de la Ciutadella, where you will find the stunning “waterfall and lake” as well as the city zoo. Take a walk in the opposite direction and you will arrive at Plaça de Catalunya, one of the many famous squares in Barcelona, which is also at the center of the popular Las Ramblas shopping and restaurant district. A fifteen-minute walk north of the hotel will bring you to La Sagrada Familia, one of Gaudí’s masterpieces.

The bright rooms

All 67 rooms in the hotel receive natural sunlight from the private terrace on the lower floor, the windowed balcony on the middle floors, or the private roof terraces on the top floor. Decorated by Marc Morro of Otras Cosas, the rooms are a typical Barcelona style, a mix of neo-gothic architecture and contemporary design, complemented with modern furniture and all the lights in the hotel were designed by Santa Cole. The bathroom is divided into two rooms. One contains the toilet and small sink with mirror and the other includes the shower and a second sink with mirror. Els Teixidors have provided luxury hand-woven blankets and Emporda has supplied your pleasantly scented handmade soap. The mini-bar is well stocked with premium vodka, gin, single malt whiskey, wine, and a selection on non-alcoholic beverages and snacks. Double rooms start at 130 EUR (139 USD), excluding breakfast.

Two shop fronts also border the hotel entrance, Satan’s Coffee Corner and Mothers. The shops are usually filled with locals and tourists. The hotel also has two rooms with access for the disabled. If you are traveling with your pets, they can stay for a rate of 20 EUR (21.40 USD) per night. This includes a small to medium size bed for your dog along with a dog bowl and some special treats just for them. Libertine lobby bar also welcomes pets of guests and locals.

Hello! My name is Perry, originally from the heart of Belgium, famed for its waffles and fries. However, it wasn't just the call of the Spanish sun that brought to Barcelona, but rather a captivating encounter with a German-Uruguayan beauty in Thailand. This led to the birth of our son in Ibiza, and eventually, more than two decades ago, I found myself in the vibrant city of Barcelona. My passion for meeting people from different nationalities and cultures, coupled with an insatiable appetite for adventure, has empowered me to transform ordinary days into extraordinary stories. In 2020, I embarked on a new journey by starting my own sightseeing company, showcasing the wonders of Barcelona to people from all over the world. With nine years of guiding experience in this magnificent city, I am thrilled to share its beauty and hidden gems with you.
