1. Handwerker Markt

As the holiday season approaches, the Marktplatz of Düsseldorf transforms into a little Christmas village with cute red houses selling all kinds of Christmas wares. Handwerker Markt is well-known for its handicraft articles like candle holders, kitchenware and home decor items made by expert craftsmen. Visitors can also enjoy demonstrations by woodworkers, pewterers, painters and glass blowers. A hand-carved and life-size Nativity scene, a century-old carousel and several food and drink stalls are also present at this Christmas market.

2. Altstadt Markt
Sandwiched between Marktplatz and Heinrich-Heine-Platz is the lovely Altstadt Markt (Old Town Market) in Düsseldorf. Surrounded by the picturesque buildings of Old Town, the shops in this Christmas market are designed like old Düsseldorf burgher houses. Situated in the courtyard of the historical Wilhelm Marx Haus is the adorable Sternchen Markt (Little Star Market). This market is famous for its amazing display of lights that makes the whole place resemble a sea of lights. Right after the sunset, the decorations come to life, with countless crystals and light fixtures that appear as if ‘floating above’. Engelchen Markt (Little Angel Market) is probably the prettiest and most popular Christmas market in Düsseldorf. Setting a heavenly tone for the market are the adorable little angels that can be seen almost everywhere you look. The shops are in the shape of market huts adorned with angel figurines and decorative wrought-iron motifs. In the centre of the market is an Art Nouveau music pavilion that sells hot mulled wine, hot chocolate, traditional sweets and biscuits, etc.

The market provides amazing views of the picturesque Hofgarten and is well-known for providing live music throughout the holiday season. Cute wooden huts in the market sell Christmas goodies like mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, bratwurst, cookies, etc. Visitors can also shop for ceramics, woollens and gifts made from wood or metal under the magical Christmas lights. Nevertheless, they will add a Christmas cheer to your shopping spree! Visitors can enjoy mulled wine, hot snacks, traditional sweets and shop for decorative items and craftworks.
