Located in Northern Cologne that is about 20 minutes by tram (4 stops) from the city centre, 404 Hostel is probably one of the smallest but coolest hostel in town. With 12 beds in total, a cozy living room, a fully equipped kitchen and comfy showers (all located on three floors), 404 Hostel gives the similar experience and comfort of staying at home. Cozy living room
Lying next to the reception on the ground floor, a cozy living room or common room offers great space for guests to stay and relax. Enjoy reading a book, playing guitar, having a drink or watching television during rainy days at Cologne. As 404 Hostel was originally built on the ground of one of the rare old buildings that remained undestroyed during the 2nd World War, its simple interior design with many wooden furnitures reminds guests of the historical values of buildings in this area.
Small-size kitchen
Walking up a couple of narrow wooden stairs to the first floor, you will find a small but fully equipped kitchen. Various equipments for cooking (pans, pots, plates, bowls, cutleries, etc.) with tea, coffee and condiments are offered to all guests with no extra charge. Though eating out is not expensive in Germany in comparison with other parts of Europe such as Scandinavia, home-cook food is preferred by many guests due to cost-saving and healthy diets. Free breakfast with toast, jam, honey, and cereal/muesli is also included in the room price.
Lovely bedrooms
The beds are always prepared in advance for guests’ comfort. A 6-bed room with the kitchen can be found on the first floor. A double room and 4-bed dorm room with shared bathroom are on the second floor. Both dorms are mixed dorms for both males and females. Safe lockers can be found in all rooms. There’s also a television in the single room.

Though getting a place to stay in Cologne is expensive during summer seasons and carnival times, the price range of 404 Hostel do not change significantly over time. With fare starting from as low as 16 EUR (17 USD) per dorm bed, you can enjoy your stay at a 6-bed dorm or a 4-bed dorm (with only 1 EUR / 1 USD extra). If you prefer more privacy, book a double room (from 40 EUR / 42 USD per night) or a single room (from 30 EUR / 32USD per night). Taxed are included in the room prices.
Keep in mind before you book!
Pay attention to the reception hours (10:00-13:00 and 17:00-22:00) as check-in is only possible during these periods of time. Other check-in time should be informed in advance. Though 404 Hostel does not have 24-hour reception, the staff is extremely friendly when it comes to recommending you where to go and what to do around the Cologne based on your interest. Like other hostels, free city map and Wi-Fi are also offered to all guests.
