Hyatt Regency Kyoto has the reputation of a luxurious hotel in Japan and is especially popular among foreign tourists from the Western countries. But what are its best features that distinguish it from other hotels? In this article I will adopt the view point of a foreign tourist and will tell you more about Hyatt Regency Kyoto’s charm. Guests dressed in kimono can receive special treatment under the “Kyoto Kimono Passport” so definitely try this opportunity.

Hyatt Regency Kyoto quietly nestled in the bamboo thicket

The closest station to Hyatt Regency Kyoto is Keihan Railway’s Shichijo Station. Kyoto Station is close too, so the hotel is located at a very convenient place. Nearby are many touristic spots like Sanjusangendo Temple known for the Tooshiya archery contest held on the Coming of Age Day, Kyoto National Museum with its new Heisei Chishinkan wing, and Chishakuin Temple where one can see pictures of the famous medieval painter Hasegawa Tohaku.

From Shichijo Station to Hyatt Regency Kyoto the road goes slightly uphill. On your left side is Kyoto National Museum and on your right side is Sanjusangendo Temple. In front of you is a beautiful little bamboo forest. Hyatt Regency Kyoto is located inside that forest. Of course, the bamboo trees have been planted to produce a nice visual effect around the hotel. Not only foreign visitors but even Japanese will hold their breath upon seeing this true Japan beauty. The hotel is right at the end of the little path that goes among the bamboo trees.

The clean and neat lobby of Hyatt Regency Kyoto

The front desk of the hotel is neat and clean, simple without any excessive decorations. Yet one can feel the refined aura of a luxurious hotel. This place is popular not only for staying overnight but also for holding banquets. The lobby is really comfortable.

The style of Hyatt Regency Kyoto

There is a shop called “Select Shop Miyako” at the opposite side of the hotel lobby. Here you can find many attractive goods that appeal to foreign visitors. For us Japanese these are daily items, but for foreigners they look so fantastic!

The first thing that you’ll see in the shop is tweezers. The ones on sale here can fascinate even Japanese guests and foreign visitors find them very exquisite. There are also teacups with pictures from famous old animal caricature scrolls. We’re used to seeing these popular images, but for foreigners the comical design is highly appealing. Also interesting are the Japanese playing cards which look like artistic design drawn on rough and black pottery. They impress even local guests. If you look at these daily items with a different point of view, you will discover their fresh appeal. This is the magic of travelling.

Foreign tourists and people with kimono can be seen in the restaurant

In “Tozan” restaurant guests of the hotel can eat breakfast. In fact, not only hotel guests can use this restaurant.

What is great about Hyatt Regency Kyoto is that if two people come to “Tozan” dressed in kimono, they will pay only the price for one! (check the conditions of the “Kyoto Kimono Passport” for more details) Are there even any other hotel restaurants which offer such a service? It really appeals to people who like to dress in kimono. And because many kimono-clad visitors come to Hyatt Regency Kyoto, foreign tourists are especially delighted with the view.

This service is a great idea which attracts both locals and foreigners. Japanese people feel happy to appear in kimono and enjoy the attention of international visitors.

A hotel which expresses Kyoto's beauty thoroughly

There are so many things which express Kyoto in this hotel: the little path between the bamboo trees which is symbolic for the city, the special service for people dressed in kimono, the original ideas that make foreign visitors happy. Hyatt Regency Kyoto is a luxurious hotel you should definitely stay at when you visit Kyoto.
