Jepara is a town located along the northern coast of Central Java in Indonesia, best known for its world-class furniture. When you talk about Indonesian furniture you may have seen in a furniture shop in your country, it just might be the one produced in the furniture workshops in Jepara. Many international businesspeople come to this city to make business deals.

Besides being famous for its furniture, Jepara is also a transit city before continuing the journey to a touristy island named Karimunjawa, which still belongs to the Jepara regency, and is known for its serene beaches. Central Java’s capital city of Semarang is only about 70 km (roughly 44 miles) away.

If you asked me where to stay in Jepara, I would definitely recommend the d’Season Premiere Hotel, which excels among others due to its beautiful oceanic atmosphere. This is one of the hotels with a garden facing directly to the private beach where you can view the Java Sea, as well as a small island called Pulau Panjang (Panjang Island) from the garden or beach area.

The new hotel

Opened in late 2014, d’Season Premiere is, so far, the newest hotel in town. Since this is a new hotel, you can expect everything like the furniture, walls, floors, bed sheets, and bathrooms to be spotless and new, which is a plus compared to other hotels in Jepara. If you have stayed in some of the other hotels in Jepara before, why not try this new hotel on your next visit?

Rooms with a good outdoor view

Rates start from 395,000 IDR (28.42 USD) for a business room, and if you bring 2 or 3 children with you, book the suite room for 1,190,000 IDR (85 USD) as it’s twice as big with a living room, separate bedrooms, and 2 private bathrooms. Most rooms have a modern and minimalist design, without much decoration.

Most rooms offer a view of the pool, and for the best view, choose the one with the window facing the Java Sea as you can clearly see the pool, the sea, and the small Panjang Island from your room balcony or windows (the one on the 2nd floor has the better view). All rooms have standard amenities like an air conditioner, a flat screen TV, and an IDD phone. A fast Wi-Fi connection is accessible from all rooms for free.

The pool by the sea

There are several things to see in Jepara like the Kartini Museum where you can see the relics of the Indonesian heroic female figure Raden Ajeng Kartini, or Portuguese fortress (built by the Portuguese to help the local king protect his kingdom). Unfortunately, many hotel guests don’t have the time to go to these places as they are open during normal business hours (9am-5pm), and many of the guests arrive in the evening, then have to leave for Karimunjawa Island the next morning or around noon to catch a boat.

Nevertheless, no matter how short your stay is in this hotel, do spend some time swimming or relaxing by the pool area. It’s efreshing to swim here, not only because of the hot weather, but also this is one of the very few hotels under 50 USD where you can swim while enjoying the view of the sea (and the small island too)!

Enjoy the clean private beach

You will be surprised to find the hotel’s private beach very clean, and its sand could be one of the whitest sands you’ve ever seen. Even though no one swims here (perhaps due to the sharp corals under the water), you can still dine and drink here. Order some sandwiches, juice, soda, coffee/tea, or beer/wine from the pool bar (named By d'Sea) and sit at one of the hotel’s tables on the beach while enjoying the ocean breeze. The private beach is facing southward, which is an advantage as you can enjoy both the sunrise and sunset on the left and right horizon from the beach, as well as from some of the hotel rooms.

Food and other amenities

For the rate, you will have a breakfast buffet included. Most of the time, they serve bread with jams, simple Asian foods like fried rice, stir-fried vegetables and chicken, watermelon, tea and coffee. Order Soto Jepara for lunch or dinner, as they put lots of chives on the yellow chicken soup to enhance the savor!

The staff here are friendly and helpful, and they will help you carry your luggage during the check in/out. Other amenities include a spa and a gym, and both have a view of the sea. The hotel is located about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from downtown Jepara, hence it’s quite a serene location, where a good night sleep is easily achievable. It really is worth staying at when you are in Jepara!
