Gozo Island, Malta is a small island with a lot of diversity. Every corner of the island oozes personality. At the center is Victoria, the capital city, which is full of life and exuberant energy. For those looking for a quieter, more peaceful island vacation, you’re going to want to head east toward Qala. This Gozitan neighborhood is small and secluded. While this lesser-known neighborhood draws fewer tourists, it’s the perfect escape for the traveler in search of beauty and tranquility. Qala is walking distance from two gorgeous beaches and tons of great walking trails. Plus, the square itself is quaint with a handful of delicious local dining options. I loved my two days in Qala, but my highlight was, without a doubt, the bed and breakfast in which I stayed. Dar Ta’ Zeppi, a charming bed and breakfast in the heart of Qala, was one of my favorite accommodations I have ever stayed in. Here’s why I loved it so much.
Dar Ta' Zeppi is a cozy place to call home
The minute I arrived at Dar Ta’ Zeppi, Tanja (one of the two owners of the B&B) greeted me with a mug of tea, a delicious slice of cake, and a lovely chat. She then led me to the Green Room, which would be my room for the night. The room was stunning and after I settled in, I could see why many of her guests keep coming back. The bed and breakfast was once her husband, Vince’s, family home. It is now where Tanja, Vince, and their son, Cyriel, live while managing the five beautiful holiday suites. They have managed to keep all the comforts of home while transforming Dar Ta’ Zeppi into a luxurious bed and breakfast. While I only spent one night at this Gozo B&B, I would have gladly stayed for weeks.

Dar Ta’ Zeppi is more than just a place to sleep at night. In fact, I found it hard to motivate myself to go explore the gorgeous island of Gozo when there was so much beauty right in the backyard! From the sunny pool deck to the luscious green garden, this property is full of places to relax and play. They’ve even got a ping pong table and art gallery and are in the process of constructing a yoga room! If you are looking for accommodations that can entertain you when you want to just stay in and relax, Dar Ta’ Zeppi is the perfect option.
Eat your heart out with their delicious breakfast
Tanja and Vince’s talents don’t stop at hospitality. They extend far into the realm of food as well. When I woke up and came down for breakfast at Dar Ta’ Zeppi, I was overjoyed. Two massive tables were lined with everything from locally made yogurt to fresh fruits to Vince’s five-cheese Gozitan pastry and Tanja’s mouth-watering jam tart. The best part? Whatever cakes aren’t finished in the morning are left beside the tea all day so you can come back for seconds whenever you wish. The breakfast is included in the stay and your dining room is the covered patio next to the pool, a tranquil way to start a perfect day at this perfect bed and breakfast.

The moral of the story? I loved Dar Ta’ Zeppi. From the B&B I could easily walk into Qala or over to multiple beaches and bays. Not that I ever had to… Tanja was always offering to give me a ride! If I had to pick a favorite thing about Dar Ta’ Zeppi, I’d have a hard time choosing between location, atmosphere, hospitality, and the food. With rooms anywhere from 80 EUR (90 USD) to 250 EUR (280 USD) per night, Dar Ta’ Zeppi is the perfect home for you during your vacation to Gozo.
