The Arizona desert is a magical place. By day, the temperatures soar, as the warm desert sun casts its light across the brown and red landscape, casting cactus-shaped shadows across the hard desert floor. By night, the temperatures cool drastically, even in the fiery depths of summer, bringing the desert to a sleepy halt, with only the sporadic sounds of distant coyotes permeating the air’s stillness. Now, I don’t know about you, but chilly desert temperatures make me want one thing and one thing only: a hot tub. At the Westin La Paloma, the mineral tub and its surrounding pools more than deliver. Set in a vast desert valley surrounded by soaring purple mountains, the Westin La Paloma Resort and Spa is the perfect place for a rejuvenating vacation.

World-class service throughout the stay

The Westin La Paloma, like much of the Arizona desert, is sprawling. Rooms are spread across the vast property, with interspersed pools, dining facilities, exercise rooms, and more. Red stone paths connect the countless buildings, along which plants and flowers native to the region flank the way. So, sure, the walkways are beautiful, but they’re also extensive. But have no fear: the Westin La Paloma’s staff will meet all travelers’ wants and needs. Don’t want to walk the long distance from the lobby to your room? A kindhearted Westin staffer will pick you up in one of the resort’s many golf carts and whisk you to wherever your heart desires. Hungry but lazy? An expansive room service menu ensures guests can be well-fed without leaving the room. And let’s talk about those rooms. Huge, luxuriously comfortable beds. Endless television channels. Perfect rain showers in a spacious bathroom. Robes and slippers fit for royalty. Best of all: a balcony off the back that opens to an incredible view of the mountainous region beyond the hotel.

Amenities to keep travelers satisfied

When guests crave a break from their exceptional guest rooms, they need not look much further to find satisfaction. The pool area, also known as the 5-pool Oasis, at the Westin is enough to thrill even the snobbiest of pool snobs. With waterslides to exhilarate the adventurous travelers, mineral whirlpools to soak in, and pools and waterfalls in every direction, guests can’t go wrong with an afternoon or evening of leisure at the Westin La Paloma. (Bonus tip: the pool is open until 11 at night, which is unusual for American hotels. Take advantage and go for a late night dip in the mineral tubs. You won’t regret it.)

Water not your thing? A range of other amenities exist to keep you busy. Check out the exquisite gym and spa, play tennis on the pristine courts, get in a game of golf, and more. Whatever it is, you’ll be doing it in grace and style at the Westin La Paloma.

Beautiful desert surroundings including great hiking, stunning views

The Westin La Paloma’s greatness extends beyond its flawless amenities. The Tucson area and its stunning Sonoran Desert offers hiking and nature trails for outdoor enthusiasts of all fitness levels. Sabino Canyon is about a 10-minute drive from the Westin, and features a slew of hiking trails, from the steep and challenging Blackett’s Ridge to the lengthier walks along Bear Canyon. To glimpse more of the Arizonian desert, head to Saguaro National Park, and take in the sights of massive cacti. Also nearby are the Biosphere 2, the world’s largest man-made ecosystem, and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, which allow travelers to discover the vibrant region just past the resort’s walls.

Luxury in the Arizona desert

A stay at the Westin La Paloma Resort and Spa promises to be full of relaxation and adventure. From the resort’s beautiful setting and amenities to the range of activities in the surrounding area—whether hiking, museums, or arts and cultural exhibits—the Westin promises something for everyone. Bring your bathing suit, hiking shoes, and a good novel, and you’ll be good to go.
