A shopping haven for international visitors and locals, Ximending is one of the top attractions in Taipei and rightly so. If you are someone who loves staying close to the thick of action and having shopping areas and food joints just steps away from your accommodation, then Diary of Taipei Hotel is a great budget-friendly option for your next visit to Taipei.

Fantastic location in Ximending

Located in Ximending, the key appeal of Diary of Taipei Hotel is its great location that allows you to easily access shops whenever you’d like, as shops are everywhere. You can also just as easily head back when you feel like resting your tired feet from all the shopping. If you feel like exploring other parts of Taipei, you can just hop on the metro as the nearest station (Ximen) is about 8 minutes away on foot. Despite thinking that 8 minutes is a long walk to the station, it feels a lot shorter than that because you will pass by many shops along the way and you can continue browsing on your way to the station.

Spacious room with TV and comfy bed

The bedroom is bigger than what I expected and there is a lot of space to store your luggage. It comes with a big flat-screen TV in front of a comfy bed for you to enjoy programmes before resting your eyes. It is sinfully good to just laze on the bed snacking on the unhealthy but incredibly tasty food you bought from the street markets downstairs while watching Taiwanese programmes on TV. The room also comes with water, tea packets, disposable cups, a kettle and a small fridge. There is also free Wi-Fi in the room which allows you to stay connected with your friends and family even though you are overseas.

Despite being so centrally located, you won’t really hear noise from the street. However, the walls connecting the rooms to the hallways are thin, which means rooms can be a little loud at times, so this accommodation is probably more suitable for deep sleepers. But then again, after all the walking and exploring the whole day, it is hard not to fall asleep when you dive into the comfy bed!

Clean and bright bathroom

Although the bathroom is not very big, it is clean and bright and comes with clean towels and toiletries like toothbrushes, shower foam and shampoo.

Good selection of food choices for breakfast

You can get a filling breakfast that is included in the hotel rate.

Breakfast is included in the stay and there are quite a lot of choices for food. As is the norm for Taiwanese breakfast, you get congee and many side dishes like pork floss, salted egg, preserved vegetables and also a few selections of vegetables to go with your congee. Other than congee, there are also braised pork rice and noodle soup available. It is best to come earlier so that you can get a seat as it can get pretty crowded after 9 am.

Even though there are quite a few food choices, my suggestion is not to eat too much because Taipei has so many street food vendors and affordable restaurants. You’ve got to leave some room to try out other food!

A budget-friendly hotel for shopaholics and foodies

All in all, Diary Of Taipei Hotel is a great place to stay if you love shopping and if you are on a budget. This is a 3-star hotel that does not exude glamour, but it certainly is clean and comfortable.

At about 1800 TWD (57 USD) per night for a bedroom for two, you get to stay in a centrally located hotel that is a short distance from good food and shopping. Definitely a great choice for foodies and shopaholics!
