All of Greece celebrates the Christmas season as well as the arrival of the New Year. However, several Greek cities transform into festive markets, villages and fairylands waiting for visitors and tourists to pass by and feel the Christmas spirit.

From north to south, every region has something to show: from traditional festivities, picturesque landscapes, to Christmas shopping and impressive decorations. The Christmas Factory in Athens

Athens, the capital, hosts the biggest festive workshop every year called the Christmas Factory. Located in the heart of the city, outside of the metro station Kerameikos, it opens its doors on November 28 2016 and will operate till January 2 2017.

During its six and a half weeks operation, there are various events, activities and workshops inside the big area of Technopolis which is transformed into a big Christmas Factory. Visitors will have the chance to enter the various wooden kiosks and create cookies, sweets and chocolate with the help of Santa’s assistants. Of course, Santa will be there every day to ask visitors for this year’s presents and wishes.

Do not miss the chance to watch the wonderful play by Oscar Wilde, “The Selfish Giant”, that is performed twice a day. Be sure to check the program for this year’s daily concerts and happenings. Entrance costs 5 EUR (5.35 USD) per person and it is open every day from 10 am to 10 pm.

The Mill of Elves starts its magical journey on November 26, 2016 and runs until January 7, 2017. The magical Mill of the Elves will host Santa Claus and his helpers, the fairies and of course, the elves will be there to provide wonderful memories.

The mill operates for 38 consecutive days and will be full of activities, concerts, workshops and surprises for kids. Visitors will have the chance to meet Santa Claus on a magical island, and mingle with the beautiful fairies and kind elves. Visit the post office for a chance to send your wishes to your loved ones and your letters to Santa asking for this year’s gifts.

Dreamland in Drama

In the beautiful city of Drama in northern Greece, locals and the visitors have the chance to visit Dreamland.

Located around the city center of Drama, by the time Dreamland opens its glittering doors, the city is illuminated and full of festivities. Small houses with local delicacies are waiting to welcome you with wonderful smells of waffles, chocolate and candies that make the air smell of sugary delights. You will also have the chance to try various savory local dishes and buy local souvenirs and Christmas gifts for your loved ones.

A few meters from the park, at the nearby city center, a large ice skating rink is set up for visitors to gracefully (or not so gracefully) skate. During the day there are local bands playing their own version of Christmas carols near the skating rink. The park will be operating till January 8, 2017 and the opening hours are from 10 am to 2 pm and from 5.30 pm to 9 pm.
