6. Widow Jane Distillery
At Widow Jane Distillery, you get a chance to indulge in two vices, but you only pay for one: chocolate and booze. The distillery is located in Red Hook, and under its belt are whiskeys such as oak and Applewood-age rye, and a 10-year old bourbon. Standard Wormwood Distillery is the brainchild of two lifelong friends – Taras and Sasha, who, while still living in an apartment, decided to subject wormwood to a variety of experiments beyond its normal use. They infused the plant into a variety of base spirits including pineapple, agave smoked with pumpkin seeds, and black peppery rye whiskeys among others. That was the genesis of the now celebrated brands such as Wormwood Gin, Wormwood Agave, Artemisia, and the famous Wormwood rye. Tours to this distillery, however, are by appointment only.
