Arcane Distilling is the proud distiller of Lone Wolf Whiskey. If you haven’t tasted this whiskey yet, then you haven’t tasted one of New York’s pride. This is the oldest operating whiskey distillery in the state of New York and the very first distillery after Prohibition. It is well known for its Moonshine brand – a fine spirit that tastes delicious and has won a plethora of awards. If you have encountered brands such as Strange Night Vodka, Dry Dock Gin, and Jerold’s Gin, then you have probably had a run-in with some of the finest products by Heights Distilling Co. The distillery is currently being managed by a journalist and filmmaker couple – Nick and Tamara whose ambition is to introduce a unique family recipe for chacha in the United States. Currently, they produce a variety of small-batch products such as ryes, single-barrel bourbons, and of course, the incredibly popular Strange Night Vodka. A tour of this distillery will enthrall you with the passion that the proprietors have towards distilling and you will also have a chance to sample some of their best spirits.

6. Widow Jane Distillery


At Widow Jane Distillery, you get a chance to indulge in two vices, but you only pay for one: chocolate and booze. The distillery is located in Red Hook, and under its belt are whiskeys such as oak and Applewood-age rye, and a 10-year old bourbon. The distillery also operates the Cacao Prieto Distillery whose main focus is the manufacture of artisan chocolate bars and a huge selection of cacao-flavored chocolate liquors and cacao-flavored rums. Standard Wormwood Distillery is the brainchild of two lifelong friends – Taras and Sasha, who, while still living in an apartment, decided to subject wormwood to a variety of experiments beyond its normal use. They infused the plant into a variety of base spirits including pineapple, agave smoked with pumpkin seeds, and black peppery rye whiskeys among others. That was the genesis of the now celebrated brands such as Wormwood Gin, Wormwood Agave, Artemisia, and the famous Wormwood rye. Tours to this distillery, however, are by appointment only. Therefore, be sure to make an appointment in advance if you wish to have a taste of some of the finest wormwood spirits and whiskeys.
