San Francisco International Airport welcomes thousands of travelers each day. Many of these travelers are looking for a good hotel near the airport, and the choices are plentiful. For the discriminating traveler, the Embassy Suites San Francisco Airport Waterfront is one of the best in the area.

A suite with a view

living room in suite

This large hotel towers over the San Francisco Bay and offers a quiet location away from busy Highway 101. They provide an airport shuttle free of charge to hotel guests that runs every 20 minutes and doesn’t require reservations. This airport shuttle service runs from 4:10 am to 12:30 am to and from the hotel. At the hotel, room choices are easy since most of the suites are the same size. Ask for a bay view room if you like to watch the flights come into SFO Airport. The famous skyline of San Francisco is visible on clear days from the hotel, and some rooms feature a balcony to step out and enjoy the fresh air and view. Business travelers can choose a 2-room boardroom suite featuring a meeting room in the parlor. Accessible suites are also available.

If you are driving to the hotel, don’t make the mistake I did and go to the wrong Embassy Suites. There is another Embassy Suites north of the airport but the correct one was south of the airport. Our rental car GPS or our smartphone GPS couldn’t find this waterfront location so beware of trying to find the Embassy Suites San Francisco Waterfront using a GPS.

The suites offer most of what travelers desire. Plenty of room, comfortable furniture, a fridge, microwave, and a big screen TV in both the bedroom and living room are just some of the reasons to stay here. Black-out curtains darken the room for a good night’s rest, and Embassy EssentialsTM bedding will lull you into a deep sleep. A tub and shower combination comes with most room choices. Hot water comes almost the moment you turn on the tub/shower water, unlike some hotels where you wait for what seems like an eternity. Rates are not cheap for these rooms and run from around 200 USD up to about 325 USD. For some travelers, this will be money well spent due to the amenities and location.

A park-like atrium

Atrium

Included with your stay is a full, hot cooked-to-order breakfast. Or if you are in a hurry, pastries, cereal, fruit, and coffee are ready to dine-and-dash. In the evening, the hotel serves nibbles and drinks for free to guests. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are included in this evening event held in the lush atrium. Renovations of the atrium and other common areas in 2013 were worth the expenditure, and it shows.

Other amenities include a pool, fitness center, pet-friendly rooms, onsite restaurant, free Wi-Fi in rooms and common areas, business center, and shuttle into the town of Burlingame. The free shuttle into Burlingame is one of the best amenities as it drops you off in the middle of several excellent restaurants, shops, and the train station. The Burlingame shuttle runs from 12:10 pm until 9:40 pm and the schedule is available at the front desk. No reservations are needed for the shuttle, but it is first-come-first-serve. Hop on the shuttle into Burlingame for delicious restaurant choices. We ate at Sakae Sushi and thought the sushi and main dishes were excellent.

Take a hike

The San Francisco Bay trail

Before dinner, take a walk on the San Francisco Bay Trail. It’s just outside the doors by Embassy Suites’ restaurant and is an excellent place for a long walk. The trail southward takes you by Kincaid’s, a classic American grill that features seafood, pasta, steaks, and more. Kincaid’s is just a five-minute walk from the hotel. I looked inside and thought it seemed like a decent place to eat. The views of the bay are excellent, and they have a happy hour each day of the week but the times vary depending on if it’s a weekday or weekend.

The Embassy Suites SFO Waterfront is a great place to hold a business meeting or special event. With ten event rooms totaling 16,000 sq ft/1,486 sq m of event space, they can host a variety of functions. Add to that the beautiful atrium for smaller breakout sessions, a business center, and restaurant onsite this makes for an excellent place for your event.

Reasons to stay here

If large suites, great views, lots of nearby restaurants, and convenient SFO location are what you are looking for, this is the place to stay.
