Located at Grensen street 8, near the Cathedral of Oslo you will find one of the nicest spot to enjoy a coffee and music break: “The Bare Jazz”. “Bare Jazz” means “Jazz Bar” in Norwegian. The concept of this coffee bar is deeply bounded to Jazz music.

Once you get at Grensen street 8 you will find a gate with a “Bare Jazz” sign, its courtyard and main entrance are right after this gate. The building is dating back to the 19th century, and it used to be station for horses. From 1928 until 2000 it was used for a very famous cobbler business. Bare Jazz started its activity after some renovation works aiming to reveal the original brick look of the building.

Especially during a sunny day, this tiny nice courtyard will be the perfect spot to relax on a bench and enjoy a hot cup of coffee.

“Bare Jazz” consists in a two-floor building divided in a music store area and a coffee bar. Right after the main entrance you will get into a very well-stocked jazz music store where you can start a journey into the music of Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Miles Davis and even Norma Winston, Cassandra Wilson and Ralph Towner, the old traditional and the contemporary jazz music masters.

Moreover if you look up you will be astonished by a beautiful early 20th century chandelier, given to the owners by a friendly customer. This crystal chandelier was located at the Oslo Castle and then sold at auction since the changing from candles to electric energy. In this area you can also find some comfortable couches where you can sit and have a nice conversation with the friendly staff of Bare Jazz.

At the second floor of Bare Jazz, you will find its pulsing heart: a refined coffee bar. Here you can try one of the several meals they serve: sandwiches, muffins, cakes, coffee - obviously-, and many others. You can sit at a table and have a break listening to a beautiful jazz music selection.

Sometimes Bare Jazz hosts live jazz music performances, which inevitably enchant the audience: near the tables you can see a permanent vertical piano and a drum-set!
