If you’re headed to London, you definitely don’t want to miss out going to Borough Market while you are there. Borough Market is a food market that offers foods from Britain and beyond. The market is a wonderful place to enjoy an afternoon, strolling through the stalls and sampling tasty food. Located just minutes from the London Bridge train station, you can enjoy the market either before or after touring the London Bridge.

When in England, you must try a British pie. British pies are absolutely scrumptious. On the outside, they have a flaky, buttery crust. Inside, they are filled with savory items. You won’t be disappointed with your selection of pies at Borough Market. The pies there range from meat to vegetable, with some stalls even offering their farm raised meat used in the pie. If you eat only one thing during your visit here, I definitely would recommend trying a pie from Pieminister. Pieminister uses high quality ingredients, which are sourced locally whenever possible. The stall offers a variety of pies for meat lovers and vegetarians.

After filling up on some food, you can stroll around Borough Market’s stands and see local and international food items. All types of meat, poultry, and game can be seen on display throughout the market. You will also be able to see fish and seafood stalls, and dairy products as well. Many stalls even offer local food items, such as eggs from the region, where you can see locals buying their produce.

Although eggs might be a bit hard to take back to your home country, there are plenty of places to buy souvenirs for your foodie friend or yourself at Borough Market. Maybe some packed spices, or some dry cured English bacon.

Time for something sweet

As you continue your journey through Borough Market, you will come across stands offering sweet treats that are too good to pass up. I have a massive sweet tooth, and can never resist a home baked sweet. Several stalls offer cookies, homemade tarts, and brownies. If you love fruit you can find all kinds of fruit tarts throughout Borough Market. If you are more of a cookie fan, then you are also in luck. There are plenty of stands offering home baked cookies, including classic gingerbread men. I am a huge fan of chocolate so would recommend getting a brownie while you are there. There are two stalls, which have fabulous brownies so keep an eye out for Ion Patisserie or Cinnamon Tree Bakery.

I am a London tour guide and my tours include talking about people who have shaped the city plus the many connected places such as Hampton Court Palace, The Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, the commercial centre of the city: the City of London, and London’s world class museums and galleries. I have been guiding for 12 years. I am a licenced London Blue Badge Tour Guide, a City of London Guide, and a Westminster Guide. The reviews I receive from clients speak of their enjoyment from the local knowledge and the humour I bring to my tours. Born within sight of Hampton Court Palace, I am a Londoner and apart from 2 years in the Middle East, I have worked in this capital city all my business and tour guiding careers. I have travelled widely and I appreciate what appeals to visitors coming to London. I can tailor my tours to interest children. I guide couples, families and larger tour groups. I particularly enjoy visits to Westminster Abbey, where I also volunteer guiding students and children through its wonderful interior – on my tours you will hear about monarchs, why scientists and poets are remembered, the architecture and religious history. The Abbey is the story of England. Come on an engaging and fun tour with me. There is so much to show you !
