Phitsanulok is a province in the lower part of Northern Thailand. A province with a rich history and plenty of attractions and activities to keep you busy for a few days or longer, the delightful Garden Corner Resort and Hotel is a great place to stay when visiting the province. In a convenient location close to the heart of the provincial capital, it is also near to the small provincial airport. Both the city centre and Phitsanulok Airport (IATA code PHS) are around 11 kilometres (7 miles) from the resort.

Here’s a little of what to expect from a stay at this lovely resort and hotel:

Choice of hotel living or even more privacy in a cosy bungalow

You can choose between rooms in the main hotel block or cute detached bungalows at the fairly new Garden Corner and Resort Hotel. It has been in operation since the middle of 2015. Rooms are very reasonably priced, costing just 350 THB (approximately 9.50 USD) per night.

The hotel rooms and bungalows all have air-conditioning and private bathrooms with hot water showers. They also have electric wall-mounted fans. Hotel rooms have either a private balcony or a terrace.

The rest of this review focuses on the resort section of the property and a stay in the individual bungalows.

A big and comfortable bed for sweet dreams

The large bed has a firm mattress with soft pillows and supportive bolster pillows, crisp white sheets, and a duvet that just invites you to curl up underneath it! Although the mattress may be harder than what you are used to in Western-style hotels, you might be surprised at how well you actually sleep. The comfortable bed ensures a great night’s sleep – wake up feeling refreshed, recharged, and raring to go!

Good facilities for complete convenience during your stay

The bungalows at Garden Corner Resort and Hotel have satellite TV, a telephone, and a full-sized refrigerator complete with complimentary bottled water. The light-coloured décor creates a bright and airy feel, the paint still relatively new and pristine on the walls. Carved wooden furnishings, such as the bed and a large mirror, add to the overall attractiveness and appeal.

Whilst there are no wardrobes in the room, clothes hooks and a small cupboard provide storage space for a few belongings. Other furnishings include a desk and a chair, a small coffee table with two chairs, and a bedside table / magazine rack with a selection of Thai magazines and information about the local area (written in Thai).

Beautiful natural views … inside and out!

A large window at the rear of the room looks over a small but pretty rock garden, complete with leafy plants and bamboo edging. Light floods into the room through the window, adding to the bright atmosphere. The positioning of the large mirror is almost certainly not a coincidence!

Outside the front door you will be greeted with the sight of more large plants and colourful flowers. Tall plants are used as dividers between the bungalows, giving you even more privacy and creating the feeling of being surrounded by nature if you sit outside. The grounds are well-maintained with plenty of lush greenery. Additional outdoor seating is available in the charming communal garden where you can sit surrounded by interesting garden ornaments.

What is really through the window though?!

what is really through the window though?!

The rock garden and plants visible through the room’s back window … they are actually part of the bathroom! The roof of the bathroom is a large frosted glass panel and the end of the bathroom is home to a miniature indoor garden! It’s a really lovely and creative way of continuing the natural theme and allowing more light into the bungalows. You can enjoy the feeling of showering whilst close to nature.

A curtain inside the bathroom allows complete privacy whilst using the toilet and sink without removing the “garden” view from the bedroom. The shower is at the opposite end of the bathroom and is not visible through the window, although, of course, you can still pull the curtain across if you like. A small selection of toiletries is provided in the bathrooms.

Free Wi-Fi internet access is available in the bungalows and hotel rooms. Each bungalow has its own car-parking space directly in front of it and there is also a large car park for hotel guests.

The reception is staffed 24 hours of the day and you can buy a selection of cold drinks and beers as well as snacks like crisps and nuts. It looked as though there was a restaurant between the reception building and main hotel building, but this was not open at the time of stay.

Overview of things to enjoy in Phitsanulok

Phitsanulok was the country’s capital city for a brief period during the 1400s. It was also the birthplace of King Naresuan, a much-loved historical monarch who is remembered for driving Burmese invaders out of Siam. There are plenty of historical and cultural sites around the city and wider provincial areas.

Phitsanulok is home to one of Thailand’s best cultural museums, the fascinating Sergeant-Major Dr. Thawee Buranakhet Folklore Museum. Containing a wide assortment of old household items, crafts, agricultural equipments, folk arts, antiques, toys, and more, it is a fabulous place to learn more about the Thailand of yesteryear. Admission is 50 THB (approximately 1.40 USD).

Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat is the city’s main temple. It is also one of the province’s major tourist attractions. Containing one of the country’s most important and sacred Buddha statues, it attracts visitors from all over Thailand and further afield.

Stay at Garden Corner Resort and Hotel for high standards of comfort and cleanliness combined with a natural ambience whilst being right on the doorstep of an interesting city.
