The spacious room is addictive

The Grand Prince Hotel Kyoto is only a 3 minute walk from the 4-2 exit of the Kokusai Kaikan Station on the Karasuma Line. Once up the escalator to the street level the bustling central Kyoto seems like a fantasy. The wide open streets are in harmony with nature and are a real sight. Cross the street with little traffic and you are at the hotel.

This hotel boasts over 300 rooms and in the middle of the cylindrical building is a courtyard garden that would probably be in a wedding magazine. The halls are lined with windows that face the garden making them feel spacious and open.

What is amazing here are the sizes of the rooms. Even the smallest one is 36.9sqm in space. The beds are large to match and the double room king bed is a wide 2m, the twin beds are 1.28m in width so it is great for those who roll around a lot during sleep. With one night’s sleep here you will be reenergized for sure!

With such a beautiful scenery and atmosphere that changes seasonally you are bound to have an awesome trip.

Go down the stairs in the hotel and through the tunnel and right in front of you is Takaragaike pond. You definitely don’t want to miss such a spectacular site. If you are staying at this hotel I implore you to take experience Rakuhoku’s abundant nature!

The park is an impressive 62.7 hectares making it 13 times larger than Tokyo Dome, and has a pond in the center while surrounded by mountains. It is loved by everyone who visits.

Takaragaike pond was built in the Edo Period for irrigation. Long known for its picturesque scenery, around the pond is an iris garden, a lounge area, cherry blossom garden, north garden and the wild bird forest.

On the east side of the park is a 3.3 hectare Kids Paradise. This is separated into 3 zones, the open space, playground equipment, and the play park, perfect for the kids.

Takaragaike Park is a park that anyone from kids to adults, and couples of all ages can enjoy.

For details on the Kids Paradise please check the link in the memo section.

Takaragaike Park, a paradise for wildlife

Takaragaike Park in the early morning is simply the best! When you are walking deeply breathing in the clean air, you run into locals either jogging or walking their dogs. As you pass by they energetically all greet you “Good Morning!” and is very heartwarming.

The pond is 1.8 around. It is the perfect size to leisurely explore. In the pond are turtles and carp swimming around, and on the water are birds floating, resting their wings. The animals you see change with the seasons but the most famous are the mandarin ducks you see when it is cold out.

If you have time step away from the footpath and walk into the wild bird forest. A small trail winds through here and it’s almost as though you are hiking. There aren’t many people here so you can listen to the birds singing or the leaves rustling in the wind. These put you in a zen like state almost.

If you are lucky you will run into wild deer like these pictured above. Be careful though as adult deer get nervous when they are with their children. It’s best to just look on them from afar.

You will definitely have a great day with so much clean air to refresh you in the morning.

In closing

What do you think of Grand Prince Hotel Kyoto which is a part of nature in Kyoto’s Rakuhoku area? In the daytime see the sights in the spectacular central Kyoto and at night rest easy in the quiet night air. This is definitely not your ordinary trip to Kyoto.
