APA Hotel is a major business hotel chain in Japan, famous for offering good quality stays at a reasonable price, throughout the country. Today I would like to introduce one of the APA hotels in Toyama, Northern Japan. If you are planning to travel around the beautiful Hokuriku region, but prefer spending more on the trip itself than on accommodation, this is the place for you!

A small yet comfy room to recharge your batteries!

APA Hotel at Toyama Ekimaeten, which is the full name of the hotel, offers everything you would expect from a Japanese business hotel. The single room is around 12 to 13 sq. m., which might feel a little small for those used to more luxurious stays. The hotel is quite simple, but offers cheap accommodation to rest your body after a long day of travel.

Of course, the hotel has other room options such as twin room, triple room, delux room, and suite room, but for single travelers like me, the single room is enough to get a good rest. This is especially true if you are the kind to explore a lot the outside, both Toyama city and the surrounding nature, which I strongly recommend!. In the room, you can find a TV, a yukata (Japanese style sleeping wear) and a cup of green tea. If you are a female guest, you might be provided with a gift of cosmetic amenities to try at your stay.

Dress in yukata and relax

When you enter the room, you will see a nicely folded yukata with the APA Hotel logo printed on it. I find it perfect to relax, and that’s the occasion for you to try a little bit of Japanese style clothing. Some people like to get in yukata as soon as they get to the hotel or some choose to wear it after taking a shower. It is totally up to you of course! APA Hotel Toyama Ekimaeten has a shower and a bathtub in each room, but if you prefer going to a bigger bath, there is a big bath and a sauna for everyone to enjoy. With a little crane placed on a yukata, you can see a simple gesture of Japanese style service, that we call “omotenashi”, at APA Hotel Toyama Ekitmaeten as well.

Enjoy a big bath and a sauna

APA Hotel Toyama Ekimaeten is a simple business hotel, but it has a nice big bath and a sauna facility for its guests. If you want to stretch out your legs and relax, I recommend that you step outside of your room to go to the big bath. There is a little section where you can bathe outside (this type of bath is calledRoten-buro”). Depending on the time of the year, you might get to experience the cold Toyama winter from a hot and comfy outside bath. The big bath itself is not as large as what you could find in a hot spring facility, but is a bonus for travelers to extend their legs instead of taking a bath in a small bath tub.

Learn about APA history from manga

Something very specific to APA Hotels is that in each room, you can find a manga (Japanese-style comic book) that retraces the great success story of the company and of its colorful CEO, a middle-aged lady with a big funny hat called Fumiko Motoya. With such a symbolic APA Hotel mascot, you may want to take a look at the comic book, especially for Japanese learners! After all, it is so rare to read a manga about the hotel you are staying at.

Save on the accommodation fees and enjoy your trip!

At APA Hotel, you will run into a lot of businessmen and workers on a business trip to Toyama, but also some travelers. It is a simple business hotel, with rooms offering you just enough to take a good rest. The rate during weekdays are starting as low as 6,500 JPY (53.5 USD) if you book in advance from travel sites. If you are looking for a cheap accommodation with a simple stay, APA Hotel Toyama Ekimaeten is a good choice. It is only 7 minutes on foot from Toyama train station and is close enough to restaurants and cafes where you can dine and drink. Of course, you can also dine at the hotel, but you are staying around the Toyama station so you have a plenty of options to go out and enjoy Toyama if you stay at the hotel. If you are curious, you can also stay at other APA Hotels in the area such as APA Villa Hotel and APA Hotel Toyama.
