Be astonished by a beautiful natural track on Mount Cofano
Mount Cofano is a triangle-shaped and 659-meter high mountain, located in the Trapani area. The whole mountain area is named Riserva Naturale Orientata Monte Cofano (Mount Cofano Nature Reserve), an enchanted seaside area where you can enjoy a wide and wild nature with rare examples of flora and fauna, astonishing panoramas and beautiful bays.
One of the most interesting spot in this area is the Grotta Mangiapane or Grotta Scurati, a deep cavern where you can find a small complex of houses still inhabited during the first half of last century. Inside these caves, archaeologists found utensils and cave paintings dated back upper Paleolithic era.
Enjoy a unique walk in nature and find a beautiful bay
Mount Cofano Nature Reserve is crossed by three main paths: the Sea path, the Baglio path and the Scaletta path.
Following the Sea path you will walk along the coast looking at beautiful calcareous cliffs overlooking the sea. Here you can also find a old votive niche and some wooden benches where you can sit and rest.
At the end of this beautiful trail you will find the amazing bay that you can see in the picture. This solitaire, wide, and beautiful bay appears to travelers as a red oasis thanks to the color of the cliffs. Here you can also find some rudimentary houses where very few people still live, experiencing a life in nature far from the chaos of urban environments.
Discover the Zingaro Nature Reserve, a treasure nestled in a wild and untouched nature
Located between San Vito Lo Capo and Scopello, in the Trapani area, you will find Zingaro Nature Reserve, the first natural reserve in Sicily ever made, since 1981.
This amazing natural location, that represents about 7 kilometers along a beautiful coast, allows visitors to experience many exciting spots, such as beaches, bays, caves, different paths, a museum, picnic areas, etc.
As you walk, an incredible view on the sea, close to what you can find in painted postcards, will follow your steps. A luxuriant vegetation grows wildly and spontaneously.
The mountain chain surrounding the Zingaro Nature Reserve was formed in the Mesozoic era. It was one of the first Prehistoric era settlement in Sicily.
Enjoy a refreshing and relaxing sea bath!
At Zingaro Nature Reserve you will find several paths leading to six different bays named Calette: Cala Capreira, Cala della Disa o Zingaro, Cala Beretta, Cala Marinella, Cala Torre dell'Uzzo and Tonnarella dell'Uzzo.
These bays consist in pebble beaches of different sizes and shapes. You will be amazed by the purity of the water, confirmed by the presence of the Cystoseira Stricta seawood, a biological indicator of water purity.
As you can see in the picture, the bright limestone nature of the rocks highlights the clearness of the water, making a sea bath in this area an unmissable experience.
The underwater landscape is another beautiful treasure of this nature reserve. You can enjoy a wide palette of colors, starting with the Lithophyllum Tortuosum, a tangled red seaweed. You can also find many different marine caves.
Live a unique experience in Sicily’s most ancient natural reserves!
Mount Cofano Nature Reserve and Zingaro Nature Reserve are two of the most beautiful coasts in the entire Sicily island. Don’t miss this incredible experience through sea and nature!
Remember to bring a bottle of water, comfortable shoes and a sunhat with you, because once in the reserve won’t be able to find any shop to get equipped. Enjoy Sicily and also explore the nearby areas as: San Vito Lo Capo and Castellammare del Golfo.
