A must-visit location for a trip to Kyoto, “Toei Kyoto Studio Park” is an enjoyable destination for anyone of any age, with its recreated Edo-period streets, events, and attractions. But that"s not all! At the park, there is even a facility where you can dress up as a princess or ninja-style! Here’s an introduction to Toei Kyoto Studio Park, with emphasis on the transformation experience.
No.1 Popularity - Become a Ninja!
“Toei Kyoto Studio Park” was born in 1975, as a theme park where visitors can experience the world of jidaigeki films through open movie sets, events, attractions and witnessing actual movies being filmed. Especially popular are the special attractions such as “Ninja Trick House” and “Ninja Training Dojo”. Just because you transformed into a super cool ninja with a mask, shuriken( throwing‐knif ), and special running skills, doesn’t mean you can run across rooftops, but you’re sure to feel excited, like this.
Realistic transformation through professional makeup and dressing!
The “Costume Rental Shop” allows you to choose a costume, and have a Toei film makeup expert make you into a realistic historical character - and you can even have a professional photographer take you some photos! You can enter from the back door if you don’t need to visit the rest of Toei Kyoto Studio Park, but we guarantee the experiences are much more fun combined. The quality of makeup is so high that other tourists will beg you to take photos with them! The constable and ninja in the picture shown here are actually tourists - no, they aren’t actors! Depending on your costume, you will be able to walk around the park in costume, a memory you will definitely cherish.
If you wish to try on costumes, but don’t need the specialty services of the Costume Rental Shop, try out the Costume Photo Shop, where you will be dressed and have your photo taken in about 5 minutes!
Who said children can"t be ninjas, too?
For children, there is a “Ninja Costume Rental Shop” where they can transform into little ninjas much more easily! The costumes, which come in five color variations, only need to be returned 30 minutes before closing time, so children can enjoy being a ninja to their heart’s content! Cute little ninjas will also be the center of attention everywhere they go! Especially tourists from abroad love the sight, so when going for a walk, be sure to take your ninja spirit with you!
Although open only on the weekends and holidays, the “Open Air Ninja School” is another exciting experience for children, so if you are interested, please make sure to check “Toei Kyoto Studio Park” for dates and times!
Learn how to sword battle!
“Samurai Sword Fighting Lesson” is a daily event held in locations such as Edo Town 3rd Avenue Square and Shirakabe Street. After a short comedy performance by actors, some of the crowd will be selected to be taught the way of the samurai sword! Their compelling acting skills and realistic sword fights are displays of pure professionalism.
Of course, there are often real movie shoots going on within the park, so you may actually meet your favorite actor, just walking down the street.
Behold! The ninja-cafe favorite, "pillbox ice cream"!
Although you are free to bring our own boxed lunches to the park, the variety of restaurants, cafes, and noodle stores within the park are also a great way to immerse into the jidaigeki world. Of the many options we would like to recommend to you the fancy “ninja cafe”. The most popular item on the menu, the “pillbox ice cream”, comes in various flavors including vanilla and green tea, costing 300 JPY each. Other favorites include black ninja curry, the shuriken sundae, the scroll crepe, as well as various gifts for friends and family back home.
Beware... of having too much fun!
Toei Kyoto Studio Park boasts top-notch hospitability by actors, staff, and employees! Once there was a little boy who found out he wasn’t old enough for an attraction - but then a nearby staff member started to play with him! Toei Kyoto Studio Park is a place of timeless fun - be sure to visit the next time you’re in Kyoto!
