2. Lord Mayor’s Celebrations

For two days in July, the streets of Norwich are turned into a party atmosphere with the Lord Mayor’s Celebrations. It is a time of great pomp and color as the city gear to celebrate all things circus, including life-size elephants. The highlight of the celebrations is a recreation of the past years when circus companies would visit the city and parade their animals and entertain the spectators with all sorts of thrilling circus performances. Today, the celebrations are still characterized by circus performances, including lots of foods, drinks, live music, a road race and the big procession that normally takes place on Saturday evening.

Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival is an incredibly popular event that celebrates the rich maritime history of Great Yarmouth. The two-day event usually sees South Quay turn into a party scene with plenty of live music, food stalls, and lots of family entertainment amongst other exciting and interesting activities. The highlights of the festival, however, is the display of the various types of boats moored up on the docks, including several ships that visitors can board. Also featured are lots of lessons about maritime history, including traditional maritime crafts and skills.

The festival was founded by Simon Rowland-Jones and Barry Cheeseman and its main focus is to celebrate English Music with works of legends such as Thomas Weelkes and Orlando Gibson, among others featured heavily.
