While metropolitan cities like Dublin are fun and exciting, nothing quite beats the tranquility and beauty of the Irish countryside. Rolling emerald hills, mossy trees, and adorable grazing sheep all over the place! Not to mention the countryside is your best bet for finding the best traditional Irish food and truly local goods. Doolin Village is small but has everything to offer from good food, drinks, handmade candies, clothing and accessories… all in one tiny place!
The entire village is a single street
This is a tiny village in County Clare, Ireland. And when I say tiny, I mean literally one block long. You’d think you’d be underwhelmed, but the buildings have such a unique and classic flare, and they have a way of making you feel like you’re in a fairytale. The folks of this little village are very welcoming, and the best part is you don’t have to worry about large crowds! This village may be small, but trust me, you’ll want to take pictures of every building and sign. This place has a way of making you feel right at home, even as a total tourist! On top of that, they’re so used to tour buses stopping in, all of the shops are absolute pros at helping tourists and keeping up with whatever crowds come their way!
A scenic village in the middle of pristine greenery
The village is not only on a single street, but it’s also only on one side of a single street. If you turn from the buildings, you’ll be greeted by luscious rolling hills, a trickling river, and a glimpse of farmland in the distance. The other great thing about escaping the city is getting to take in the amazing fresh air. Inhale the rich scent of rain and grass in this little village, and give yourself a moment to appreciate actually having some elbow room!
A traditional Irish pub with lightening-fast service
Gus O'Connor’s alone is a great reason to stop by this village for a visit! A lovely cobblestone building houses a warm and cozy pub with great service. Since Doolin Village regularly gets tour buses passing through, the staff has their service methods down pat, making the pub a quick place to grab a bite if your bus is only going to be in Doolin for a brief period of time. You simply look over the menu, pick a table and remember the number that’s on that table, go to the cashier to tell them your order and pay, and just minutes later, your delicious food will be right at your table.

And great food to match!
One of their most popular dishes is their seafood chowder, but you can trust that just about everything on their menu will be delicious on its own or alongside a nice pint of Guinness, bread or whatever other side you want! They give good portions, and their hearty meals will fill you up to prepare you for a long day of travel and exploration! So, if you’re on a time constraint but don’t want to miss out on satisfying your inner foodie, no worries, O'Connor’s has got you covered!
Local chocolates for your sweet tooth
After a nice lunch or dinner, you can walk just a door down to the Doolin Chocolate Shop and get dessert! They offer plenty of artisan, local, and fresh home-made chocolates! From fudge, to chocolate bars and caramel, this is a great place to treat yourself and grab some yummy souvenirs for your friends and family. The small chocolate shop hosts friendly owners that are happy to talk and get to know visitors, so enjoy a sweet chocolate with sweet conversation!
Lots of handcrafted goods
These shops are great for local and handcrafted souvenirs like scarves, pins, sweaters, hats, and more! If you’re traveling during a chilly time of year, you’ll be able to pick up a lovely sweater, coat, or whatever else you need to warm up your wardrobe! The products are of a really good quality, and worth investing in if you’re in the market for some long-lasting clothes to keep you bundled up from the rain.
Enjoy the sites on a great tour
I had the great honor of going on an excellent tour with Viator that included an excursion to the Cliffs of Moher, with a stop in this village. If you want a quick stop in Doolin, I’ve got to say, it was a great tour that I highly recommend!
Escape the hustle and bustle of the city to truly admire the beauty Ireland has to offer!
