If you are planning a stay in downtown Baltimore’s Harbor East area, there are two hotels worth a look. The Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites share a piece of land right in the middle of this vibrant area by the waterfront. Let’s take a look at both properties, one at a time.

The Hilton side

Both hotels share a front semi-circular driveway, valet, and a front desk with Homewood Suites staff on the left and you enter and Hilton Garden Inn on the right side. Choose either self-parking for a reasonable 23 USD or valet parking for 35 USD per night with in and out privileges.

The Hilton Garden Inn has provided travelers throughout North America clean, modern, mid-priced accommodations for years. The Baltimore location offers king rooms, two double beds, or accessible room options. All have a fairly generous amount of space and offer business travelers an ergonomic chair by Herman Miller, large work area, and desk-level outlets to make business tasks easier.

The beds are their Garden Sleep System type for a good night’s rest. In the bathrooms are a granite vanity, curved shower, and fluffy towels in abundance. Other popular in-room amenities are complimentary Wi-Fi, Keurig® coffee makers, refrigerators, and a microwave.

On the Homewood side

On the Homewood Suites side, a larger room gives guests a full kitchen in both the studio and one-bedroom options. The rooms come with a fridge, and staff will even do the grocery shopping for you if needed to make your stay more relaxing. They only charge for the shopping, not the service! These bigger rooms are perfect for those staying long-term. The price tends to be reasonable and is only about 20 USD more than next door at the Hilton Garden Inn. The Homewood Suites allow pets, unlike the Hilton Garden Inn. They charge 100 USD for guests bringing a pet.

Staying at Homewood Suites means breakfast is included in their lodge. This hot breakfast menu includes hot and cold items for a good start to your day. On Mondays through Thursdays, enjoy a complimentary evening social featuring a light meal and beverages in the second floor lounge.

If you are in need of a workout, both properties give guests access to the MAC (Maryland Athletic Club) next door to the hotels. Staying at either hotel allows guests access to the rooftop terrace where a park-like setting is a relaxing way to get some fresh air. This terrace provides a good bird’s-eye view of parts of the city to help get oriented for a walk around this historic city. With Whole Foods grocery store right around the corner you could pick up a healthy picnic for a memorable meal on the terrace.

Walk to several restaurants and attractions

Historic Ships

Most of Baltimore’s best attractions are close to both properties. A short walk takes you to historic Thames Street with some of Baltimore’s best restaurants like Rec Pier Chop House, Thames St. Oyster Bar, and The Abbey for some for the best and exotic hamburgers in Maryland. The National Aquarium is walking distance from the hotel as is the Inner Harbor.

Camden Yards is close enough to walk to in good weather for a major league baseball game if desired. M&T Bank Stadium is also close enough to walk to or catch a quick Uber ride if the weather is cold and wet. Pier Six Pavilion offers top-name music entertainment in the warm weather months and is a great place to catch a concert. Baltimore’s Historic Ships include a light ship, submarine, tall sailing ship, Coast Guard cutter, and lighthouse. All are a short walk away and can be seen individually or you can buy the pass to see them all for just 18 USD for adults and 7 USD for children 6–14.

The Charm City Circulator is a popular free bus system in Baltimore. Inquire with the front desk for timetable and pickup locations if you want to travel the city this way. The Charm City Circulator covers most any area in Baltimore a visitor would want to go to.

Clean, safe, and centrally located

This Harbor East location is hard to beat for a clean, safe, centrally located hotel. With most everything you will want to see and do within walking distance, these two hotels are winners.
