The city of Richmond, Virginia, has a rich history and culture that draws many visitors to the area. Southern hospitality is found in shops, restaurants and hotels throughout the Richmond area. When you come, the Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa Short Pump is ready and waiting for your arrival.

Many room choices

One of the first things guests notice upon arrival is just how big this hotel is. Soaring eight stories high, you will easily find the Hilton Short Pump if you’re driving here. Boasting 254 guest rooms and suites, a full-service spa, and tons of event space, this hotel draws a crowd. Free parking is available to guests arriving by car. After parking, proceed to the reception area where the friendly staff members are waiting to welcome you.

It can be challenging to select a room from all the types and floors on offer. For good views of the surrounding area, choose a room facing the Short Pump Town Center. The upper floors offer great views and lots of natural light. The backside of the hotel would be a quieter option for your stay. Most rooms accommodate two persons, but queen rooms with two beds, king junior suites, and superior king rooms offer enough space and beds for up to four. In-room amenities include 42 inch flat-screen TV, laptop-sized safes, MP3 alarm clock, ergonomic desk chair, coffee maker, hairdryer, and sitting area.

For a hotel this size, you might think the elevators are slow to arrive. During my visit every time I needed to ride the elevator to or from my seventh-floor room, the wait was minimal. The hotel was full, and two large events were going on at the time of my visit, making this an impressive feat. After all, who doesn’t love having the elevators arrive quickly?

The hotel looks like it was recently renovated, even though it opened 10 years ago. Maintenance isn’t the only department that shines at the Hilton Short Pump. A quick look at the reviews on websites like Booking.com reveals excellent customer service and high customer satisfaction. There’s a good reason the hotel is AAA Four Diamond rated!

Hotel amenities are excellent and include free WiFi, indoor pool, family rooms, restaurant, bar, and free shuttle service within the area. There’s also a guest computer area with four computers for guest’s use in the lobby. Pets are welcome at the Hilton Short Pump for a reasonable 50 USD per stay and a size restriction of 75 pounds/34 kilos. The immediate area has lots of sidewalks and grassy areas for walking Fido without having to go to great lengths to appease your dog.

The spa

Aura Spa is located on the first floor, straight back from the main entrance. Enjoy a variety of spa services like couples treatment rooms for quiet massages with that special someone, a dedicated skincare room, two hair stations, two dressing rooms with lockers and amenities, four manicure stations, and a signature enhancement massage room that comes with a chromatherapy steam shower.

The spa also has an outdoor patio with a fire pit for relaxing before or after your treatment. Bundle up in your spa robe and enjoy some fresh air while pondering your day.

Aura Spa can accommodate up to 60 guests for a special event. Whether it’s a wedding, baby shower, bridal shower, or large family gathering, why not reserve space for your group at the Aura Spa? Food and drink items are available from Shula’s Spa and Reception menu.

Next to the Aura Spa is an indoor swimming pool and hot tub. There’s nothing like a good soak in a hot tub before indulging in a massage.

Food and drink

On-site food and drink choices include Aroma Café for Starbucks coffee, pastries, sandwiches, soft drinks, wine, and beer. For a satisfying meal, Table Two Fifty serves meat-eaters and vegetarians alike in a classy space.

Just minutes away, the Short Pump Town Center is a modern take on a shopping mall and has restaurants for just about any taste and budget. Find old favorites like Texas de Brazil, Maggiano’s Little Italy, Red Robin, Rock Bottom Brewery, and new choices like Peter Chang, Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurant, CAVA, or The Boathouse.

The Hilton Short Pump has a thriving special event business. With over 22,000 sq ft/2,043.86 sq m of meeting space, they have what you need for a business meeting, family reunion, wedding, or party. The staff and facilities are flexible and can accommodate as few as 10 persons or up to 1,300 attendees. Numerous breakout rooms, private dining spaces, executive lounge, junior, and executive suites are available for your function.

In the area

You won’t have to go far from the Hilton Hotel & Spa Short Pump for loads of things to do. The area is well known for the Revolutionary War, Civil War, and early settlers history. Grand estates and parks like Maymont, Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, beg exploring. Edgar Allen Poe called Richmond home for a while, and there’s a museum in the dark poet’s honor. For water sports, consider a rafting, fishing, kayaking, or wading trip to the James River that flows through Richmond and beyond.

It's best to stay two or more days

With so much to see and do, a visit of two or more days is best, and staying in style at the Richmond Hotel & Spa Short Pump is a perfect fit.

Even though my stay was hosted by MATPRA, my opinions are my own.
