The beauty of the Machiya Maya Gion does not stem from a one-man effort. Built in collaboration with New-York born architect Geoffrey P. Moussas and Yamanaka Co. Ltd, the display of traditional ancient shrine design mixed with bold ideas to reconstruct traditional Japanese architecture gave birth to the stunning interiors of the Temple Garden Suite. Learn more about what you can experience during your stay at Machiya Maya Gion, Kyoto.

Warm exterior furnishing that welcomes you home

Tucked away on a quiet turn, the suite is a rustic spot hidden away from the prying eyes of civilisation. Upon entering, the friendly staff (who are fluent in both Japanese and English) will check you in and show you around your new room. Perched atop the wooden balcony is a glassed-in hot tub with flourishing views of the private gardens of Zennin-ji, one of Kyoto’s oldest Zen temples with a rich history dating back to a thousand years ago. Perfect for a relaxing soak, melt your post-flight stress away in the warmth of the therapeutic waters with a glass of wine in hand. The compact sleeping area is an innovative use of space - by creating a tightly packed bunk, it allows for more facilities to be built around you. The futons are laid out on a sprawling queen-sized bed with floor heaters keeping you toasty warm during the freezing winter nights, and a fully-functional air-conditioner to blast that summer heat away, ensuring that you are able to get a good night’s rest no matter when you visit. The custom designed railings make for an immersive 180-degree view of the surrounding flora and fauna - enjoy a quiet evening reading by the tables with the melodic music of nature as your companion, or simply do a light stretch when the sun is up to chase the clingy sleep monster away! As much as you’d like to appreciate the asceticism of the monks, the room is situated within a close proximity to the temple and thus, the association has requested for minimal noise to ensure that the monks can go about their daily routines in peace. Step into your luxuriously furnished washroom after a long day of exploring and wash off all the grime and dirt under the high-pressure waterfall shower, and take a dip in the minimalist hot tub to soothe your aching muscles if the weather outside is too cold for a soak.
