A former gorgeous Haveli (an old house in Rajasthan), Hotel Diamond is nestled just outside the busy main streets of Pushkar. Comprised of three levels of rooms, each with different rates, coupled with a gorgeous internal courtyard, the hotel offers more than most other accommodations in the tourist-centric town of Pushkar.

In the heat of Rajasthan, there’s not a lot one can do during the day, but make your way past the leafy and cool courtyard to the rooftop of the hotel and you’ll find yourself whiling away the afternoon amongst its plethora of couches, sofas and beds.

On the surface, it may look like Hotel Diamond is similar to all the other accommodations in Pushkar, but the difference is its friendly, helpful staff and budget rooms.

Hospitable staff make your stay worthwhile

A family-run business, Hotel Diamond acts exactly as an Indian house would: overly hospitable and ensuring that at all times, your needs are looked after in the best possible way. If you get sick from the burning Rajasthani sun (a common occurrence for travellers), they’re on hand to make you their famous ginger-lemon tea and aid you in your recovery process.

Breakfast, chai and teas are available at their restaurant 24/7. With the owners living in the hotel as well, if you find yourself hungry at midnight or needing assistance of any kind, the staff are always on hand to help you. The Wi-Fi is also easily accessible and moderately fast, especially for Pushkar. They can also assist anyone in booking a scooter or motorcycle for rent and giving you information for your onward travels. Have a conversation with the owners while they’re relaxing at their rooftop restaurant and all your worries will be addressed.

Many affordable rooms available

The rooms at Hotel Diamond are numerous with their prices dependent on its location within the hotel. If you’re a solo traveller looking to come to Pushkar to relax and get away, the rooms for single travellers are extremely affordable and perfectly-sized. Starting at 300 INR (4.50 USD) for a single, small room, they’re located on the ground floor amongst the flora that makes up the beautiful internal courtyard.

As you climb higher, the prices start to rise with rooms on the second floor going for anywhere between 400 INR (6 USD) to 600 INR (9 USD), followed by their most expensive rooms on the third floor for 800 INR (12 USD) - these are the largest rooms with an attached balcony and seating area usually. All rooms come with an attached bathroom and free towels and toiletries.

The location is perfect for those in need of a quiet place

The location of Hotel Diamond is ideal in Pushkar. Hidden away on a side street near the local part of Pushkar, Hotel Diamond is set just far enough away from the main town that the noise at night of travellers gathering in circles to talk is drowned out, but close enough that you can walk to that hum-drum within a few minutes. It’s a five-minute walk to Pushkar’s main attraction: its massive man-made lake; it’s also a ten-minute walk to any of the other sights in town from the temples to Gurudwara, a Sikh temple, to the Islamic mosques.

A gorgeous old haveli with great value

All in all, Hotel Diamond is the place most travellers overlook for the well-known names of other hostels. With hostels’ prices skyrocketing and getting busier than ever, for those looking for a budget-friendly hostel with hospitable staff and a great restaurant, look no further than Hotel Diamond. The view from the restaurant overlooking the entire city isn’t bad either.
