The beautiful French city of Rouen is situated on the River Seine north of the country. It also happens to be the capital of Upper Normandy. Just 135 kilometres from the centre of Paris, France’s capital, Rouen used to be one of the largest and most prosperous cities of medieval Europe and one of the capitals of the Anglo-Norman dynasties, an empire that stretched its rule across both England and large parts of modern France from the 11th to the 15th centuries. Today, you will find remnants of that era there, such as a Gothic cathedral, a medieval quarter, interesting museums, and lots of traditional culture.
